The Longest Bridge In The World

President Xi Jinping inaugurated

the world's longest sea bridge project

Tuesday, October 10,2018

China inaugurates the opening of the longest sea bridge in the world, Tuesday, October 23, 2018.
This bridge stands on the sea connecting the financial center of Hong Kong, Macau and the Pearl
River Delta metropolitan area.

Quoted from Reuters, the bridge has a length of about 55 kilometers and is equipped with a 6.7-
kilometer tunnel that connects with Chinese-made islands in the South China Sea. The inauguration
of this bridge has made Chinese President Xi Jinping flood the praise.

China's Deputy Prime Minister, Han Zheng, said the bridge could help develop China's strategy
for the Greater Bay Area around the Pearl River Delta as happened in San Francisco Bay and Tokyo
Bay. The bridge will start operating on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. "Standing at this historic
point,
we are very confident that the opening of this bridge will bring progress, especially the benefits that
can be enjoyed by the Hong Kong and Macau regions, " said Han, in a bridge inauguration address.
Media in China proclaim, as a security measure, the authorities plan to use a face identification
system to detect drivers who cross the bridge. If the driver is caught evaporating more than three
times, an alarm will sound.
Critics say the bridge is part of Beijing's plan to expandits control of Hong Kong amid Chinese
promises thatit will provide greater autonomy to Hong Kongand freedom of speech. The Hong Kong
authorities say the construction of the longest bridge in the world costs US $ 15.31 billion or Rp.232
trillion.
The bridge was built in the late 1980s,but was suspended under the British colonial rule at that time.
The existence of this bridge is expected to consolidate Hong Kong's position as a regional airline and
logistics center.
