A large number of people in our country and in the world are seriously

dependent on alcohol. Much binge drinking among young people takes

place in outdoor/hidden locations.
It’s not always a criminal offence to drink alcohol in the street. However,
individuals or groups of people drinking alcohol together can sometimes
lead to rowdy or disruptive behaviour.
As a result, people stop thinking clearly and start doing uncontrollable
things. It includes suicides, homicides, recreational accidents, car crashes.
But there are a range of harms to others from drinking. Problems identified
include; litter, noise and intimidation all of which have a detrimental impact
to the quality of life for residents. Drinking alcohol clearly has important
effect on social behaviors. Very few people when they drink actually
become aggressive. These include effects on family life and members –
sometimes just a bad moment, sometimes very serious. Drinking is often
implicated in family violence and in child neglect.
This is the fact we cannot deny. If we do not pay attention to these
problems right now, we may face bad consequencus in the future. Police
should require individuals to stop drinking alcohol in the streets
immediately.
Police may remove alcoholic drinks from problem drinkers in the street.
Non compliance could result in arrested. To my mind there should be
alcohol control zones in every district. Alcohol controlled zones are having
a positive effect in reducing alcohol related anti social behaviour. Also the
police should refer those arrested and on bail, for alcohol treatment.
Penalty notices for disorder can also be an effective way to deal with these
offences.
