1 General

This technical specification for marking of equipment and pipe lines complies with
following standards:

ČSN 13 0072 Marking of pipelines in plants according to following substances.

ČSN ISO 3864 – 1-4, ČSN EN ISO 7010 Safety colours and signs.

Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council

classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixture.

2 Sizes of the markings

2.1 Text markings

The text markings shall be in black perpendicular font on white base.

Font size 10 mm shall be used for:

 Equipment and motors in bright, well lighted areas up to 2.5 m height and
 Up to 1.5 m horizontal distance from the observer

Font size 30 mm for:

 Equipment and motors in slightly lighted areas over 2.5 m height and
horizontal distance over 1.5 m from observer.
 Piping to DN ≤ DN 50

Font size 60 mm shall be used for:

 Piping over DN 50 in departments and on piping bridges in the mill area.

2.2 Marking of flow direction

The flow direction shall be marked by an arrow.

2.3 Flow substance colour band

The circumferential colour band is indicating the flow substance in the piping.

Width of colour band over the circumference of the pipe:

Pipe diameter D including insulation Band width

D ≤ 100 mm 150 mm
100 < D ≤ 400 mm 200 mm
400 < D ≤ 800 mm 300 mm
D > 800 mm 0.5 x outer diameter in mm

2.4 Black perpendicular font on white base

 Colour band
 Alphanumeric code
 Numeric code
 Direction of medium flow
 Warning sign (where applicable)

Marking should be written in one line, if possible.

3 Marking of equipment, valves and motors

3.1 Slide type sign

For font sizes10 and 30 mm “Slide type” sign will be used.

The materials of the signs are:

 Symbol sign: plastic and AlMg3 for temperatures above 60°C
 Sign colour: plastic and AlMg3 for temperatures above 60°C
 Slid bar: AlMg3
 Sign holder: AlMg3
 Clamp: high-grade steel
 Clamping strip: high-grade steel
 Clamping: lock high-grade steel
 Riveting: AlMg3

3.2. Stabile signs

Stabile signs shall be used for font size 60 mm and above.

Stable signs may also be used as an alternative to “Slide type“ signs.

Sign material is aluminium and in corrosive environments stainless steel or plastics.

The size of sign plate shall be specified separately.

Example of the stabile sign:

3.3 Valve marking

Example of valve marking:

100-2720Q2153

100 - Nominal size DN

2720 - Department and Area code
Q - Manual valve character

4 Marking of pipelines

4.1 Marking by panting

The marking shall be done by painting onto a pipe or an insulation cover of a pipe
using a template.

The paint area shall be cleaned thoroughly and all grease shall be removed before
painting.
