PRACTISING RESPONSIBLE ATTITUDES TO PRESERVE AND

COSERVE THE ENVIRONMENT

- It is the responsibility of every individual to help manage the environment

better.
- Education on the important of conservation and preservation of the
environment should begin in primary schools.
- The public must be educated on the 3Rs concept, that is recycle reuse and
reduce.
- Important of 3Rs ;
- Recycle –collection and separation of waste materials into bins according to
the different types such as paper, metals and plastic and turning them into
new and usable products.
- Reuse – reuse old things such as a empty bottles and plastic containers for
other purposes instead of discarding them.
- Reduce – reduce the usage of certain materials which are harmful and causes
the depletion of natural resources.

Conservation and preservation of the environment should be carried out

to make the public aware that;
a) A clean and healthy environment is conductive to live in
b) The earth is shared by the present and future generations
c) Valuable natural resources which take a long time to be renewed should
be used wisely.

Producing compost;
a) Compost is human produced through the decomposition of organic
substances such as domestic and garden wastes.
b) The purpose is to reduce the amount of garbage and to return useful
minerals back to the soil.
c) Domestic wastes such as leftover food, vegetables and fruits together
with fried leaves and grass are put into a hole in the ground measuring 50
cm x 100 cm x 50 cm.
d) Each layer of organic wastes is separated by using a thin layer of lime or
soil.
e) The hole is covered with a plastic cover or with soil and left for a few
weeks.
f) Decaying bacteria and fungi decompose the organic wastes into humans
which can improve the fertility of the soil.
g) The humans produced is rich in carbon, nitrogen and minerals.

Tree planting campaigns;

a) This id to encourage the planting of trees in school compounds, housing
estates and playgrounds.
b) Trees should not be cut down unnecessarily.
c) Trees release water vapour into the atmosphere. Hence, they cool the
environment, realease oxygen for respiration and remove carbon dioxide
to reduce the greenhouse effect.

Adopting river projects;

a) Encourage organizations or people living near rivers to save the rivers.
This ensure that the rivers are kept clean and the aquatic environment is
kept pollution free.
b) Encourage to study and appreciate the beautiful ecosystem of rivers.
BENEFITS OF RECYCLING

- Reduces the cost of disposing garbage

- Saves energy and slows down the depletion of non-renewable energy.
- Prevents the extinction of animals and plants
- Preserves and conserves the environment
- Maintains the equilibrium of the ecosystems
- Reduces environmental pollution
