Bahirdar University Engineering Students' Confidence in English Conversation

Conversations take place everywhere: at work, at school, at church, in shops, on dates, and even at the
gym. Conversations are such a common part of daily life that people rarely consider how difficult they
can be, or how much anxiety they can cause, if all of these conversations are taking place in a different
language. Many engineering students avoid engaging in conversations, especially with people Who
speak english. This avoidance is a serious issue for Engineering students studying English, as participating
in conversations is critical for developing their language skills. Avoiding conversations can also cause
Engineering students to have difficulty making friends and succeeding in their career opportunities.
While it is natural to be nervous about participating in conversations, Engineering students must learn to
be more confident in their ability to do so. Engineering students can select from a variety of solutions to
stop avoiding conversations and gain confidence.

One solution for students to develop more conversational confidence is to learn about current, relevant
news. Several students do not participate in conversations because they are unsure of what to say or
what other people are interested in. The Internet makes it very simple to find out what everyone else in
the community is talking about; with this knowledge, students can be prepared for conversations
because they know what everyone else is talking about and can even look up the vocabulary words they
need. Students can start by following a university's social media pages or listening to the news. Knowing
about current events is a simple way to prepare for a casual conversation.

Engineering Students can also prepare for common conversational topics if they want to be more active
participants in conversations. While almost every conversation is unique, there are some topics that
come up frequently and can be practiced. Many people, for example, may discuss about Engineering
students' families, regions, jobs, reasons for studying Engineering, or hobbies. While working, students
can practice responding to these types of questions. As discussions come up in conversations about
which they are unable to speak, they can add them to their list of topics to practice. Engineering can
gain confidence in participating in conversations by thinking about and practicing responses to common
conversational questions.

Some other way to break the habit of avoiding conversations is to improve your language skills and
prepare questions ahead of time. way to overcome the habit of avoiding conversations is to refine
language skills and prepare questions. Students will not only be more confident in conversations if they
improve their vocabulary, fluency, grammar, and pronunciation, but they will also look forward to them
as a chance to practice. Many students are afraid to speak because they don't want to make mistakes;
however, by improving their language skills, they can alleviate that fear. Students, on the other hand,
should not wait until their language is perfect before speaking. An easy place to start is to listen to
people's questions and then come up with some grammatically correct questions to ask in a
conversation. These questions can be practiced and memorized to ensure proper language usage.
Engineering students can participate more actively in conversations if they ask these questions and
continue to improve their language skills.
In conclusion, engineering students have a variety of options for dealing with the problem of avoiding
conversations. Choosing one of these solutions will help students improve their English skills and build
stronger relationships with others. Because conversations are a part of everyday life and cannot be
avoided entirely, it is preferable to overcome the fear through preparation rather than limit self-
expression. Students will feel empowered to be better conversational partners whether they are talking
to a supervisor, a classmate, a roommate, or on job opportunities.
