PROCESS OF MAKING DECISIONS:
Judgement and Decision Making Based on High and Low Efforts

Consumers often make purchase decisions based on what they have

purchased before. What can marketers do to help influence a shift in behavior
for frequently purchased, low-elaboration goods like (1) dishwashing liquid, (2)
deodorant, or (3) toothbrushes?

(1) dishwashing liquid

Consumers buy dishwashing liquids as an everyday use necessity making

it a habit. They go to stores and simply buy dishwashing liquid with a
brand on which they are familiar with. So to say, they don't buy out of
brand loyalty but out of habit and brand familiarity. In order to break the
consumers' habits in buying the other brand of dishwashing liquid, giving
free samples in the streets and making packaging bigger than usual
attracts prospects. In this way, the suggested price in the market need not
be reduced for the bigger packaging is already enough to attract and make
consumers buy your dishwashing liquid. It is also possible to introduce
sale like buy one take one on your dishwashing liquid, for people prefer to
buy products on which they can save.

(2) Deodorant

Deodorant is one of the personal needs on which consumers takes time to

choose what type of deodorant to buy. They don’t just impulsely buy any
deodorant for there are some future losses and gains they weigh first
before buying. Most consumers consider more the scent and whitening
effect of deodorant on their underarms. Thus, the best way to sell your
products effectively is to have doctors and professionals vouch for the
effectiveness of your deodorants. This is where the word-of-mouth
happens. And when the information has become widely known in the
market, then it time to start looking for resellers to sell your deodarants.

(3) toothbrushes?

It is not everyday that consumers buy toothbrushes. The best way to make
consumers buy your toothbrushes is to cell it is a promo in the market like
selling it together with toothpastes. Consumers tend to buy more if
complementary products are bundled together as a discount package.
Making your toothbrushes high in quality can make consumers buy yours
also, or you can innovate new features for toothbrushes that will make
consumers intrigued about your product. You can also give PR packages
to social media influencers to advertise your product if you don't wish to
spend a lot to hire celebrities to advertise for your products.
