MATHEMATICS 5
FIRST QUARTER:
WEEK 4

I. Overview:
This week covers the lesson of finding the greatest common factors and least common multiple
of 2 or more numbers. The real life problems about the topic will also encounter here. There will be
additional trick/technique for the process of solving the problems.
The most important aspect of these lessons is being conscious, which helps everyone live a
meaningful life by turning what happens into experience.

II. Learning Objectives:

The learners are expected to:
▪ recall the basic multiplication facts;
▪ find the greatest common factor and least common multiples of 2-4 numbers by continuous
division;
▪ solve real life problems about GCF and LCM; and
▪ appreciate the value of finding the GCF and LCM of a number.

III. Materials Needed:

▪ Multimedia Devices: PowerPoint Presentation, YouTube
▪ Devices: Laptop, Speaker, headset, microphone, radio, etc

IV. References:

V. Lesson Proper:

A. ACTIVITY:
Session 1: Picture Analysis #1
Showing a picture of a girl helping her mother in their garden and ask the students to
tell something about the picture.

Finding the GCF

Giving a set of 2-4 numbers and look for the greatest common factor using the Upside-
down Cake Method.

Session 2: Book Activity page 42-43: A. #1&2 ; C.#1,3 and 5.

Session 3: Picture Analysis #2

Show a picture of a boy and a girl collecting used plastic bottles. Ask the pupils to tell
something about the picture.

Finding the LCM

Giving a set of 2-4 numbers and look for the least common multiple using the Upside-
down Cake Method

Session 4: Book Activity page 48-49: B. #1&2; C.#1,3 and 5.

B. ANALYSIS:
Session 1: Greatest Common Factors
▪ how do you show helpfulness at home? In school? Is it good to be helpful? Why?
▪ How will you solve for the answer to the problem 1?
▪ How did you get the greatest common factor of numbers?
▪ How are we going to use the continuous division in getting the GCF of 2 or more
numbers?
Key Question
▪ How does the upside-down birthday cake method help you to solve the problem about
GCF?

Session 3: Least Common Multiples

▪ What are the objects that can be recycle? What do you do in the used objects like plastic
bottles, used papers, glass bottles etc.? What are the good effects of recycling in our
environment?
▪ What does the problem asked you to find?
▪  How will you solve for the answer to the problem? Can you think of ways to solve it?
How are we going to use the continuous division in getting the LCM of 2 or more
numbers?
Key Question:
▪ How does the upside-down birthday cake method help you to solve the problem about
GCF?

C. ABSTRACTION
Session 1: Greatest Common Factors
 Common Factors are factors common to any two or more numbers.
 In finding the GCF of two or more numbers, the method that we use is
Continuous Division or the Trick ‘Upside-Down Birthday Cake Method”. The
given numbers are divided by their common factors (not necessarily prime)
continuously until the results are relative prime (Dulce, 2020).

Session 3: Least Common Multiples

 Common multiple is a multiple common to two or more numbers.
 All divisors used together with the relatively prime results of continuous division
are multiplied. Their product is the LCM of the given numbers (Dulce, 2020).

D. APPLICATION
▪ Finding the greatest common factors and least common multiple of another 2-4
numbers. (Seatwork/Notebook Activity 1-5 items)
▪ Solving real life problems involving GCF and LCM. (Sharing Ideas 1-2 items)
E. CLOSURE
Where are we going?
Learners predict the topic of tomorrow’s lesson – be sure to refer to the
predictions the next day as either an opener or in closure.

VI. Assessment
Session 2: Book Activity page 42-43: A. #1&2 ; C.#1,3 and 5.
Session 4: Book Activity page 48-49: B. #1&2 ; C.#1,3 and 5.

VII. Assignment/Announcement
Make sure to submit your works on time.
