Cloud Computing Lecture Thoughts

Cloud computing is one of the trending and most used service in IT organizations as it improves
the scalability and agility of the organization. Many businesses are adapting to this technology,
but many small businesses are still skeptical about this technology. Business that already have
cloud services are attracted because they can simply access services externally instead of
maintaining internal servers which is far more expensive, whereas for cloud services it is pay for
what you use. Cloud based business services and technology-based cloud together is a digital
platform. Both the business and technology services or information contribute to increasing the
sales or acquiring new customers, increase market share and growth in the company. Digital
platform can be internal or external. It is preferred to have external digital platform as it has
more benefits when implementing globally. Today’s cloud technology promotes high security
for example if any financial information of universities needs to be private, private clouds can
be used. I look at cloud services as a more convenient, scalable, less expensive, reliable as it not
only reduces digital assets but also the ease of implementing the global or local business
platforms. As the cloud services are through vendors most cloud services but not all cloud
vendors provide quality of service. Even with all the advantages, some of the disadvantages are
the cloud services dependance on the service of vendor for security, migration, disaster
management, quality service, how fast data can be transferred and provider instability.
