Proposal for a Parking Garage Addition at the Maple-Willow-Larch Complex James D. Camp September 22, 20191 Introduction Towa State University has beon mown as one of the most beautiful campuses in ‘tho US, making Buzxfeod’s "Top 25 Beautiful Campuses in the World” list im 2015. In addition, Iowa State has created a thriving community within maintain ing its campus beauty. However, with the recent increases of student enrollment at Towa State University, and several plan additions proposed by ISU athletics which will remove parking locations around Jack Tice stadium, the need for parking locations will increase in the near future. ‘To address this sue, while maintaining the suburban fagade that Iowa State las, proposes to increase the parking capacity through the construction of patking gavage on top of the parking lot on the north side of Maple-Willow-Lacch, 2 Discussion ‘Thie parking garage will span three stories tall, and will cover an area similar in size to the original parking lot. A single ramp going up and a second one going down the parking garage will be constructed on the inside of the garage for cars to traverse the tiers. An elevator will be added for pedestrians. For lighting, ceiling lights will used on the lower two levels and light poles on the top level, with floor lights running down the raraps to aid with driving. ‘The structure will be made using concrete with steel rebar, and asphalt roads. Once completed, the patking garage will have the capacity to hold almost three times ‘as many cats than the original parking lot did, This will allow for mote room for commuters, students, and create closer parking for those attending football games ‘The solution will be implemented during the following timeline ‘Technical dvawings ate made, and susveys of the parking lot are taken, ‘© Tho parking lot will be cloared and demolished. ‘+ Construction work begins on the foundations for the building, ‘* Foundations finished. Asphalt is laid on the third level, the levator shaft is constructed, and light fixtures are added, Blectrical is ran through the structure, and elovator is installed3 Resources ‘To construct this building, a team of construction workers and managers will be needed to construct the building and lay the asphalt. A toam of surveyors and architects will be needed to survey the area and design the building. Finally, 4 team of electricians will be needed to install the light fixtures and design the clectrical system. This construction project wil cost § 5,095,200, which is a reasonable price for a parking garage, and will be built within a reasonable timeframe of 9 months and a week to construct. The skilled teams of construction workers and managers will ensure that the construction of the parking garage continues without delay or prevent accidents from happening.
