Section A
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System

Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. made a deal with the software company SAP system to create a

drink-specific software application that provides the ability to serve customers in the field,

reduce costs and share data with ease through its various systems.

The system was built as a mix of SAP's ERP and CRM applications as well as something called

a NetWeaver integration middleware which allows mobile connectivity. The aim of

implementing this new ERP system from SAP was to help consumer product companies improve

their logistics delivery from their stores and also speed up vending machine maintenance. This

ERP system enables them to have a common system across different areas like Operations,

Marketing, Accounting and Inventory to where they can report to.

To have the edge over the competitors like PepsiCo and Red bull Coca Cola adopts the latest

ERP systems to optimize the connections that exist through their vast network of Bottling

companies and base products solvent and syrup manufacturers and suppliers.
Quality Management System

Being the industry leader, The Coca-Cola company needs to ensure that each bottle/can they ship

out is of a high enough quality and matches with the standards of every other bottle. This is done

because the company needs to maintain the way their products are perceived by the customers

starting from the conditions of the bottles/cans to the taste of the drink. These checks also have to

be consistently and constantly performed along with the manufacturing process.

The company uses Quality Control shortly called QC which focuses mainly on improving the

production line and reducing potential defects in the product itself like volume of the drink

present, labelling on the bottle/can and leakage. Quality Assurance QA takes a focus on the

bigger picture things like quality of ingredients like sugar received and distribution channels and

delivery process through their trucks and vans.

Database Management System

Coca Cola Company has used Oracle Databases which have SQL capabilities previously but due

to the implementation if its new ERP system developed with SAP application, they have moved

to IBM’s DB2. This allowed them to reduce the need for excessive hardware and software and

the cost to bear it. The addition of this database system helped the company to reduce the size of

its previous database and accommodate a much larger number of employees which was also

much easier to analyze and manage.

The coca cola company also has data center which is the nerve center where multiple secured

servers and storage devices ensure the bulk of data is secured for the companies use. They have

also obtained a Gb Ethernet connection that they obtained from Cisco, which has helped them

greatly in reducing costs and the time and effort required to locate the private and vital

information required by the company.
