UNDEFEATED

After serving twenty-six years of a life sentence for conspiring against the South African
state, Nelson Mandela is released from Robben Island. His release also symbolizes the beginning
of the end of apartheid, a general election, and South Africa's re-entry into the world, including
international athletic events and competitions, which they had been barred from since apartheid
began. When Mandela wins the election, he vows to bring a divided country together; most of
the black populace is rejoicing and expectant, but white Afrikaners and Zulu are concerned that
their rights in the country would be taken away.
The first universal value that comes to me is hope, specifically hope for black South
Africans after Nelson Mandela wins and ends apartheid. Furthermore, when Nelson Mandela
speaks with Francois, the rugby team's captain, he inspires Francois on how to be a leader and
implies that he wants the Springboks to win the World Cup. The next one is freedom; after
Nelson Mandela was elected president, white Africans were concerned that they would be fired
from their jobs due to the new president's black skin color, but Nelson called a meeting on short
notice to clarify that if those people wanted to leave, they could, and that if they felt they couldn't
work with the new government, they should leave. It demonstrates that Nelson Mandela allows
them to choose whether to stay or not, regardless of their skin color. The third universal value is
equality; as I indicated at the conference, Nelson Mandela works with people of all races and
colors; he does not fire white Africans from their jobs, and so he encourages them. Furthermore,
all of his bodyguards are black, but because they need more men, Nelson Mandela writes an
order for four white special branch cops to operate as his bodyguards. The fourth is trust, which
is established when the NSC executive convenes a meeting to abolish the Springboks and
eliminate all sports teams representing South Africa as the Proteas. When Francois proposes a
toast when they lose at the game, Nelson Mandela arrives and says that they need to restore the
Springboks. Nelson Mandela shows that he truly believes in the rugby team's ability to win the
world cup, and when Francois proposes a toast when they lose at the game, he says that they
must drink that beer even if it tastes like shit and promise that they will never taste it again that
day. Lastly is courage, even though there is no guarantee that Nelson Mandela's plan would
succeed, he continues to work hard for his country and support the rugby team. Francois'
teammates may disagree with him at times, but he still believes in his team's ability to win the
championship; he leads his squad and bravely faces significant challenges on behalf of his team.
This movie shows that one man, Nelson Mandela can unify a nation because of his self
confidence and hopefulness. It shows a two-way street to forge a nation to success a good leader
and a good listener. Francois listened to Nelson Mandela a factor that leads to win the World
Cup. It helps to unite their country through sport and overcome economic and racial division in
the wake of apartheid. Nelson Mandela remarkable statement is “I am the master of my fate, I
am the captain of my soul.” It tells us that doesn’t matter what happen to him, he is responsible
for his actions and the direction in which one's soul will travel is determined by one's actions, not
by predestination.
