CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Student and teacher’s comfort are indicated as the most important aspect of any

school environment. If students are comfortable, then learning becomes much easier.

Being comfortable is a combination of different factors such as equipment and facilities.

The school facility is much more than a passive container of the educational

process: it is, rather, an integral component of the conditions of learning. The layout and

design of a facility contributes to the place experience of students, educators, and

community members. Depending on the quality of its design and management, the

facility can contribute to a sense of ownership, safety and security, personalization and

control, privacy as well as sociality, and spaciousness or crowdedness. A considerable

number of variables that operate in the teaching or learning process invariably affect the

educational performance and achievement of students. The physical environment of

school buildings and school grounds is a key factor in the overall health and safety of

students, staff, and visitors (New Hampshire Department of Education, 2012)

The quality of education depends on school facilities and instructional material. It

is the process of students learning. The quality of a school’s environment and its facilities

has a strong influence on students’ learning process. In accordance with the NASP

(2017), A school’s environment and the degree to which students feel connected,

accepted, and respected heavily influences students’ academic achievement, mental

health, and overall school success. One crucial variable that directly impacts the quality

of learning acquisition among learners is the scarcity or lack of school facilities that aid

in the reinforcement of knowledge and skills.

The purpose of this study was to establish or propose a project plan for the

scarcity of equipment and facilities in Liceo de Luisiana and to validate the level of

acceptability of the teachers for the propose project plan for the scarcity in equipment and

facilities of Liceo de Luisiana.

Background of the Study

Education, in every human community is an indispensable instrument for human

progress, empowerment and affecting national development. Behind the academic

success is the learning process in schools involving equipment and facilities. School’s

equipment and facilities have been observed as a potent factor to quality education.

As the researchers and students of Liceo de Luisiana based on our observation

together with our own experiences for the past 6 years we experienced, as well as our co-

students, of lacking of materials and equipment in utilizing the facilities such as comfort

rooms, canteen, science laboratory and home economics room. These experiences could

effect on how the students will acquire knowledge and skills or their learning process

during their stay in Liceo de Luisiana. These experiences were not only happened to the

students but also to the administration, faculty and staffs of Liceo de Luisiana. Everyday

living condition of students must be one of the priority of the school by providing their

basic needs through giving them the proper and complete facilities including its materials

and equipment.

The researchers come up with the proposal of improvement plan to resolve the

negative experiences of the students in regards with the scarcity of equipment and

facilities. In which, this improvement plan may lead to a new future image of Liceo de

Luisiana. School’s facilities and equipment that are the things needed for effective

teaching and learning process to take place. School’s facilities include school building,

comfort rooms, classrooms, assembly halls, canteen, clinic, laboratories, workshops etc.

Equipmentincludes teaching aids, chairs, tables, utensils, sanitation, devices such as

modern educational hardware and software etc. Liceo de Luisiana already had the good

school’s environment, equipment and facilities and we must improve it to provide the

quality learning process of future Liceans.

Excellent school facilities and equipment are basic ingredients of good

educational process. The desire for education attainment is on the high side, the

consumers of education therefore expect the attainment of standard and quality education.

Since student and teacher comfort is indicated as the most important aspect of any school

environment. This study will provide a project plan for the scarcity of equipment and

facilities that may be useful for the improvement of Liceo de Luisiana.

As the point are given, the researchers decided to conduct a study of proposed

improvement plan to resolve the scarcity of equipment and facilities ofLiceo de Luisiana.

Objectives of the Study

This study attempted on assessing a proposed improvement plan to resolve the

scarcity of equipment and facilities of Liceo de Luisiana.

Specifically, the study sought to attain the following objectives:

1. To determine the scarcity of equipment and facilities inLiceo de Luisiana in terms of:

1.1. Comfort Rooms

1.2.School Canteen

1.3.Science Laboratory

1.4.Clinic

1.5.Home Economics Room

2. To propose a project plan that will solve the scarcityof equipment and facilities of

LiceoDe Luisiana.

Significance of the Study

The study would help the teacher, students, school, parents and future researcher

in the following terms:

Teachers,It will help teachers to create more meaningful visual aids and other

teaching techniques or materials.

Students,The propose enhancement plan may provide students better facilities

and equipment. It can help students for better learning experience. It will also beneficial

for the students for being comfortable when they are in school, occupying the facilities

and using the equipment.

School,The study would be useful to improve the equipment and facilities,

especially the image of Liceo de Luisiana. It will also help the school to get more

enrollees because of the improved facilities.

Parents, The future increase of facilities and equipment in school will give

parents the confidents that their children are comfortable and in good hands.

Future Researcher,Moreover, this study will be helpful to them to serve as guide

and use as reference when they make their own research papers.

Scope and Limitations

The study was limited to finding out a improvement plan for the scarcity of

equipment and facilities in Liceo de Luisiana for the School Year 2019-2020. A total of

two hundred ninety eight (298) random selected students were asked to be the

respondents of the study. The respondents are randomly selected by using proportionate

stratified random sampling technique. The study only includes organizing workflow and

planning, communication, scheduling, time management, and costing

The instrument used for collecting data was a questionnaire to determine the

scarcity of equipment and facilities in Liceo de Luisiana. The time frame of this study

was from January 2019 to 2020.

Definition of Terms

The following terms are defined conceptually and operationally for the easy

understanding of the readers.

Scarcity- lack of equipment and materials in school

Slack- characterized by a lack of work or activity.

Spaciousness- enough or abundant space, rooms, facilities are large in extend in range.

Indispensable instrument- effect of development in every human community

Acquisition- the act of obtaining or beginning to have learning’s

Equipment – refers to a set of tools or other objects commonly used to achieve a

particular objective

Facilities - a place amenity or piece of equipment provided for a particular purpose

Scheduling – arrange or plan to take place at a particular time

PERT/ CPM- is a statistical tool used in project management designed to analyze and

represent the tasks completing a given project
