Objectives
Objectives

After going through this LAS, you are expected to:


1. write a reaction paper on the ideas of the author, stating the relevance and worth
of ideas, soundness of author’s reasoning;
2. evaluate effectiveness of the author’s presentation;
3. compose poem to interpret the ideas of the author;
4. organize a debate reflecting the ideas presented by the author; and
5. research on some important points that may be used for support on the debate
organized.

Judging the Relevance and Worth of Ideas, Soundness


of Author’s Reasoning, and the Effectiveness
of the Presentation
This lesson will help you become assertive by taking a stand pertaining to a critical issue
that affects your decision as a student and as an individual citizen. Values which we hold dear
will be revealed and emphasized to enhance our capacity and emotional stability.

In judging the relevance and worth of ideas, issue/s must be clearly presented with a well-
defined terms are applied throughout the reading text or presentation. Author’s presentation
of ideas are supported and provided with facts and evidences. The author‘s reasoning follows
from one point to another and must sound logical. Persuasive devices or propaganda
techniques present in the written work must be evident such as appeal to emotions, name-
calling, appeal to authority.

In evaluating the effectiveness of author’s presentation of ideas, the following questions


must be put into consideration.
• Is the presentation of ideas accurate?
• Is the presentation of ideas significant?
• Has the author defined terms clearly?
• Has the author used and interpreted ideas fairly?
• Has the author argued logically?

For the effectiveness of the ideas, the author would be able to persuade its reader or viewer.
