Title Virtual Reality Vehicle Inspection Routine

Abstract/ Vehicle Inspection Routine (Rutin Pemeriksaan Kenderaan) is a routine

Background where you all need to check on the outside of a vehicle including engine
compartment and hardware in the rear boot. This is to make sure that
the vehicle is fully safe to drive without engaging any problem that could
even put the driver and passengers in danger. Here in Malaysia, during
the driving test, this routine (Vehicle Inspection Routine) is one of the
parts of the test. Driving students must do this routine in front of their
driving instructor perfectly to pass the driving test.

However, because of this pandemic (Covid-19), many business sectors

have to close down to avoid face-to-face interactions to prevent this virus
from spreading. Driving schools are one of the sectors. Because of this,
many students can’t learn how, and what to do during the driving test
practically. Also, from this research, one of the problems that we found is
driving students tend to be pressured, too nervous, or not calm during
the test that end up failing them.

In this study, we approach some kind of new non-traditional method

that's called Virtual Reality (VR) Vehicle Inspection Routine to let the
students or anyone who wants to learn this routine for their own sake
practically. This application will be using complete steps that have been
provided by the Road Transport Department Malaysia (Jabatan
Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia). By using Virtual Reality (VR), users can
experience and learn in a more practical way rather than watching a
video, or reading notes. Users will actually learn better using Virtual
Reality because it’s closer to reality and the experience is much greater
than any kinds of methods that exist right now. This application can also
be used as their practise and revision before having the real test. We aim
to provide a non face-to-face alternative for individuals to learn and
execute a part of their driving test, specifically the Vehicle Inspection
Routine (Rutin Pemeriksaan Kenderaan) with a safe environment that
will not harm any of the users. This application will mainly be used for
learning practically.
Teaching material, based on the application of environmental simulations
with computer technology, has become a well-recognized teaching
Thesis
strategy (Yeh and Chen, 2002). VR simulation significantly reduced error
Issues
rates and increased correct equipment selection (Sing Ling Tsai & Sin
Kuo Chai, 2006). VR has generated much excitement but little formal
proof that it is useful. However, since VR interfaces are difficult and
expensive to build, the computer graphics community needs to be able
to predict which applications will benefit from VR. To address this
important issue, this research measured the degree of immersion and
presence felt by subjects in a virtual environment simulator (Jeenal Vora
& Santosh Nair, 2002). Nevertheless, varying process and device
characteristics impede the selection of a suitable technology. A concept
is presented to evaluate the potential of inspection and maintenance
processes (Henrik Eschen & Tobias Kotter, 2018)

Keywords Virtual reality, practical education, vehicle inspection, learning application

Objectives I. To educate users about all the steps in vehicle routine inspection
based on the guidelines provided by JPJ in virtual reality.

II. To provide the users a safe, covid-free environment for them to

learn and execute the routine test without anything to worry
about.

III. To prepare a stress-free (no human instructor) environment for

the users so that they can learn the routine calmly without getting
pressured, getting nervous and for some cases, being not
satisfied whether the driving instructor with the students or the
students with the driving instructor.

Research I. How can we educate students and individuals about Vehicle

Questions Inspection Routine which is a practical learning?

II. Why do we need to implement this application to the driving

schools?

III. What kind of technology can execute this practical learning?

IV. Does this method can help solve all the problems that have been
encountered during this research?

Hypothesis/ I. Do some research and identify problems that people have

encountered during driving tests in this pandemic.
Research
Method II. Research for literature review for this application.
III. Collect data about a similar application that has been created to
improve this VR application itself.

IV. Make a rough design to implement on this application prototype.

V. Proceed to finish the application according to flowchart after

receiving feedback from the prototype.

VI. Documenting every step, procedure, research, and problems

encountered during the process.

VII. Finalize thesis for submission.
