Accountability and Transparency
Accountability, as its simplest, means holding officials responsible for their actions, and
establishing criteria to measure the performance of officials, as well as rights and mechanisms to
ensure that the standards are met1. The UNDP states that, ‗those who are chosen to make
decisions in government, business and civil society organizations should be accountable to the
public, as well as institutional stakeholders ‘.
