11. A right circular conical vessel of volume 32 000π cm3 contains 15 616π cm3 of water. The base of the vessel
rests on a horizontal ground and the depth of water is x cm . 11 060π cm3 of water is added into the vessel
and the water level rises by 15 cm .
(b) Stacey claims that the wet surface area of the vessel after the water is added will be greater than

14. Let f(x) = x2 − 4x . Suppose g(x) ≡ [f(x)]2 + mf(x) + n ≡ x4 + px3 + qx2 + rx + s , where m, n, p, q, r and s are
constants. When g(x) is divided by x − 2, the remainder is 19 . When g(x) is divided by x + 2 , the
remainder is 115 .
(b) Determine whether all the roots of the equation g(x) = 10 are integers. Explain your answer.

(c) William claims that when g(x) is divided by x − a and when g(x) is divided by x + a − 4 , where a is
a real number, the two remainders are always equal. Do you agree? Explain your answer.

15. There is a row of 5 shoe boxes. Each shoe box can hold 2 shoes. 5 identical left shoes and 5 identical right
shoes are put into the shoe boxes randomly. A shoe box is correct if and only if it contains a left shoe and a
right shoe. Find the probability that there are at least 3 consecutive correct shoe boxes. (3 marks)
