• Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has been given the additional
charge as Governor of Punjab, in addition to his own duties, by President
Ramnath Kovind.

• The Finance Ministry has released over 13 thousand 385 crore rupees to
25 states for providing grants to the Rural Local Bodies.
• त त्त मिंत्रालय ने ग्रामीण स्थानीय तनकायोिं को अनुदान प्रदान करने के तलए 25 राज्योिं को 13
िजार 385 करोड रुपये से अतिक जारी तकए िैं ।
• The grants have been released as per the recommendations of the 15th
Finance Commission.

All About Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

• Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit

programme being implemented in all districts of the country with effect from
1st January, 2017.
 • It is a centrally sponsored scheme being executed by the Ministry of Women
and Child Development.

Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme

• Cash benefits are provided to pregnant women in their bank account directly
to meet enhanced nutritional needs and partially compensate for wage loss.

Target Beneficiaries

o All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM), excluding those

who are in regular employment with the Central Government or the State
Governments or PSUs or those who are in receipt of similar benefits
under any law for the time being in force.
o All eligible Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers who have their
pregnancy on or after 1st January 2017 for the first child in the family.

Benefits under the Scheme

o Beneficiaries receive a cash benefit of Rs. 5,000 in three installments on

fulfilling the following conditions:

▪ Early registration of pregnancy

▪ Ante-natal check-up
▪ Registration of the birth of the child and completion of the first
cycle of vaccination for the first living child of the family.

o The eligible beneficiaries also receive cash incentive under Janani

Suraksha Yojana (JSY). Thus, on an average, a woman gets Rs. 6,000

 • Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri led an official and business
delegation to Russia to participate in the 6th Eastern Economic Forum EEF
Summit in Vladivostok.

सम्मेलन में भाग लेने के तलए रूस में एक आतिकाररक और व्ापाररक प्रतितनतिमिंडल का नेिृत्व

• During his visit, Mr Puri had meetings with Energy Minister of Russia
Nikolay Shulginov to review bilateral energy cooperation in the energy sector
and with Russian Minister for Development of Far East and Arctic Alexei
Chekunkov to discuss the collaboration between Indian and Russian companies
in that region.

Indian Army contingent to participate in Exercise ZAPAD 2021

अभ्यास ZAPAD 2021 िें भाग लेने के मलए भारतीय सेना की टु कड़ी

• Indian Army will participate in Exercise ZAPAD 2021, a Multinational

exercise being held at Nizhny in Russia from 3-16 September.
• भारिीय सेना 3-16 तसििंबर िक रूस के तनज़नी में आयोतजि िोने ाले बहुराष्ट्रीय अभ्यास
ZAPAD 2021 में भाग लेगी।
• Over a dozen countries from the Eurasian and South Asian Regions will
participate in this signature event.
• इस िस्ताक्षर कायतक्रम में यूरेतशयन और दतक्षण एतशयाई क्षेत्रोिं के एक दजतन से अतिक दे श भाग
लेंगे।

Al-Mohed Al-Hindi 2021 exercise.
• The Indian Navy and UAE Navy conducted the bilateral naval exercise
‘Zayed Talwar 2021’ off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
 • The 36th edition of CORPAT between India and Indonesia is being held in
the Indian Ocean region.
• The 12th Edition of Indo-Russia joint military exercise called ‘Exercise
INDRA 2021’ will be held at Volgograd, Russia from 01 to 13 August 2021.
• India, Japan conduct bilateral naval exercise
• NATO Organise Multilateral Military Exercises ‘Steadfast Defender 2021’
• US-Army led multinational joint exercise ‘DEFENDER-Europe 21’ will be
conducted in more than 30 training areas in 12 countries
• Pakistani and Egyptian forces are taking part in the ‘Sky Guardians 1’ exercise
to bolster military cooperation between the two countries.
• India and three European nations (Spain, France and Italy) began a two-day
high-voltage naval wargame ‘EUNAVFOR’ held in the Gulf of Aden.
• India, Sri Lanka and Maldives conduct virtual trilateral tabletop exercise ‘TTX-
2021’ on maritime security
• Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tabar recently participated in military exercises with
the frontline frigate of the Italian Navy.

• The Union Territory of Ladakh has declared snow leopard (Panther unica)
as the new state animal and black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis) as the new
state bird.
