Choose one (1) SDG discussed in Week-1. Identify a particular problem on the SDG chosen. Share
your thoughts on how are you going to contribute to the solution of the problem you identified.
Student’s Answer:

➢ The sustainable Development Goals (SDG) or also knowns as the Global Goals
are a combat in which it will help everyone regarding the environment, political,
and economic that challenge the world. There are 17 sustainable development
goals that are key to have a better environment. In 17 SDGs I chose the number 5
in which this is called the sustainable development goal 5: Gender Equality.
Nowadays, we still encounter people who do not accept based on their gender and
the goal of this SDG 5 is to eliminate all the discrimination and a gender-based
violence. Gender equality is a fundamental to human rights because it is essential
to empower everyone’s life.

There are tons of problems regarding to the gender equality but most of it was
the lack of opportunities at work to women. Way back then, we know that women
are only known to be a mother and always at the house however, these days
everything has changed in which women are not only a mother who should be
taking care of her children but also, they can do what the men can do. Most of the
works are requiring hiring a man and not women because they believed that
women cannot do what the men can do but unfortunately, we are in the modern
world where women can do everything. Women also experience a discrimination at
work, college degree that they want to take up, skills and even their talent. This
SDG #5 wants to empower women that everyone should not be based on gender
but rather the skills of the person.

As a student I chose this SDG #5 to promote the equality and empowerment of

women, the only thing that I can do to have a solution in this type of problem is by
sharing my advocacy so that everyone will know what is right and wrong and to
open their senses that everyone deserves everything its either you’re a female,
male or even a part of an LGBT community.
