Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use
this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning at home. Furthermore, you are
expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included
in the module.

For the learner:


As a learner, you must learn to become responsible of your own
learning. Take time to read, understand, and perform the different activities
in the module.

As you go through the different activities of this module be reminded of


the following:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part
of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.

Hello! How are you doing today? From the countries has been
mentioned in the module 1 in module 2 and in Module 3 for sure you gained
lots of information and its contributions in the field of arts in some Asian
countries.
Specifically, it seeks to achieve the learning competency, 1. Show the
relationship of the development of crafts in specific countries in Southeast
Asia, according to functionality, traditional specialized expertise and
availability of resources (e.g., pottery, weaving, jewelry, and basketry) A8PR-
If-3 2. Trace the external (foreign) and internal (indigenous) influences that
are reflected in the design of an artwork and in the making of a craft or

It is expected to you with the following learning objectives:

1. know the development of the handicrafts in the country Thailand;


2. compare the similarities, differences and uniqueness of Southeast
Asian art;
3. appreciate the contribution of Southeast Asian arts and culture;

This module will also help us appreciate in Thailand with their arts
and crafts that are more colorful than with others.

Let Us Study
Arts and Crafts of Thailand

If we are to look at the map of Asia particularly the Southeast Asia it


consist of eleven countries and it is divided into “mainland” which are
countries of Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam and the other is
“archipelagic” which are the countries of Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the
Philippines, Brunei, and the new nation of East Timor (formerly part of
Indonesia).
With this, one of the mainland country that is the Thailand. We will
learn their development, their contribution, their differences, and their
uniqueness in the field of arts and its culture. This country has its big part
that we can really appreciate and patronized their artworks because we like
it. As a matter of fact, we can really see or witness that other country also use
or even appreciate the said arts and crafts of it.
Long before, Thailand was farmland, and farming was one of the most
popular industries in the country. Thailand was described also with proverbs
that say “fish in the water and rice in the fields, which describes that is
bountiful land that can provide for its people. At the present, mat weaving is
now popular with tourists. Since the development of the arts and crafts is
highly in demand these young no experience and some of the farmers the
country side taught by highly-skilled craftsmen how to produce handicrafts
such as silk weaving basketry and silver work. With this, they are still doing
great in the field of arts and crafts.

Glue and scotch tape

1. Prepare all the materials.Safety first when doing the activity.


2. Cut the cartolina on the size of your head, like a cap like in the
picture below.

3. If you are finish doing it you have to paste your inspired songkok an
output you made in module 3 design it with your cap.
4. Have your output with a selfie picture or submit your output to your
teacher concern.

1. Southeast Asia consist of eleven countries and it is divided into two, the
“mainland” and “archipelagic”.
2. Southeast Asian people show their artwork through fabrics and exhibit
other artworks through festivals.

3. Loy Krathong Festival in Thailand is held on the night of the 12th full moon,
usually in November.
4. Sky Lantern Festival are made out of rice paper with a bamboo frame,
which contain a fuel cell or small candle.
5. The songkok or peci or kopiah a cap widely worn in Indonesia, Brunei,
Malaysia, Singapore, the southern Philippines, and southern Thailand,
mostly among Muslim males that before only one color the black, for
nowadays they can put their desired color and even they used this as part of
the uniform as a government servant.
