The Self From The Perspective of Eastern and Western Thoughts
1.4. The Self from the Perspective of Eastern and Western Thoughts
Eastern and Western thoughts have different concepts of the self that is based on their culture,
particularly to their religious beliefs and political philosophies. Since most of the previous lessons
came from the Western Scientific Research, the focus of the study here is the Eastern Thoughts.
A. Western Thoughts
Western Thoughts is an Individualistic Culture since the focus is on the self intrinsically.
Western Thoughts emphasize more on the value of equality even if they see that the individual
can rise above everything else because they are in their own competition. However, Western
Thoughts promotes ideals that create fair competition and protect the individual.
Thus, western thoughts as an individualistic culture focus on the person intrinsically, and their
culture are more liberated – free from traditional or social attitudes.
