Executive Summary FIWIs

Overview
The theme of our idea is to provide Quad play services which refer to broadband internet
access, Television, Telephone and Wireless, having much more bandwidth and speed than the
contemporary solution provider. We are combining the fiber and wireless networks together at
one place and thus using the best features provided by these technologies.

Market need
The demand for wireless and broadband services is increasing day by day. Many new
companies are entering in the industry and since then healthy competition has flourished.
Companies are marketing with new plans and tariffs with better speed. The users of internet
and wireless services are increasing since 2000 as level of education is improving with the
introduction of many new universities. Companies are coming up with new technologies and
offering number of services. The major concern for the users is speed of service which mainly
depends on bandwidth.

We are coming up with a product which mainly addresses these two issues. The bandwidth will
increase to such an extent that even 3G services can be provided as well and speed of internet
will be much higher than any current competitor in market.

Opportunity size
The users of broadband and internet services are increasing from last few years. There are
more than 60% people who are under the age of 25 in Pakistan. The level of education is
enhanced. Change in lifestyle has turned internet services as need which was at one time
considered as luxury.

So the size of market will increase in future as more and more people are attracted towards the
technology. The service can be given to universities which require high bandwidth due to large
number of users. Secondly, the services can be provided to companies whose offices are
dispersed across the country like banks, insurance companies and for video conferencing etc.

Competition
Our services are based on latest research conducted in 2010 and research is still going on and
improvements are made as our CEO has five research papers on this technology out of which
three papers are already published and one is accepted in GLOBCOM and other in ICET for
publication. So it is new technology and there is no direct competition but indirectly there are
many competitors who are competing for same market and money that we are targeting. Some
of which are:

PTCL

PTCL is providing broadband and wireless services in all major cities of Pakistan. It is the biggest
provider of broadband service in Pakistan. They also provide services to corporate clients. PTCL
has strongest financial muscle and has the highest market share and market leader in the
industry. PTCL provide many other services which include smart TV, telephony etc.

Wateen

Wateen introduced Wimax technology in Pakistan. It also has a strong financial muscle. It
provides many other services with internet that include telephone, TV etc.

Witribe

Witribe launched its services 2009. It provides broadband services in some areas of Rawalpindi
and Islamabad. Since its start it has grown fast and enjoy healthy market share in twin cities. It
has good reputation in terms service.

Our solution
We will use the mix of both fiber and wireless technology, taking advantages of both. We are
using fiber at the back end to provide high capacity error free services while using wireless
technology to provide mobility. Fiber has been the undisputed choice for long haul
communication supporting enormous bandwidth on the other hand wireless eliminates the cost
of tethering wires. Where the other companies like PTCL, WATEEN, WiTribe which can give
maximum up to 8 Mbps, our solution will give manifold more bandwidth then these
contemporary service providers.

Economic Benefits
The bandwidth demand is increasing with each passing day. New bandwidth hungry
applications are being introduced. It is quite evident that the existing solution cannot fulfill the
increasing demand for the bandwidth. Particularly if we go 2-3 year ahead, the services which
will be introduced, the current services cannot even think of fulfilling their demand.
Current Or Potential Customers
Current customers could potentially comprise of corporate sector of Pakistan, Universities,
Banks, Research and Development Organizations, Gaming Clubs, Electronic Media. They often
go through Tele-conferencing, and their demand for bandwidth is very high. If we go few years
back, we couldn’t even conceive of applications like YouTube or online newspaper or similarly
services which require relatively high bandwidth. But today the people cannot even live without
them. Similarly when the users see the services like HDTV, Video-on-demand, e-gaming, they
will definitely demand for high bandwidth. So our potential customer can consist from layman
at house to the corporate sector, banks, R & D organization and Universities.

Business Model
For this purpose, hybrid business Model will be implemented.

Subscriptions: customers will subscribe and thus they will be served.

Home and Personal Usage: the domestic users will be more attractive to this business
model

Risk and Mitigation Strategy

Since Fiber-Wireless technology is a new technology, we may not get the desired technical staff,
various devices to be used like Optical Line terminals; Optical Network Units may not be
available in the market. At the wireless end depending upon our budget we plan to use 3GPP-
LTE, 3G or 802.11n. So overall, we may not get the desired infrastructure. In that case, we may
have to import everything. Similarly there could be some legal issues like licensing. Depending
upon the situation in Pakistan, we may have law and order and political situation.
Future Milestone
We have worked out all the theoretical aspects of our project. Recently we also ran a test bed
at NUST and G-13 Sector of Islamabad for testing its feasibility. In this regard, our CEO has
published five research papers on different aspects of it. There are no technical difficulties in it.
We have also submitted initial proposal to Technology Incubation Centre (TIC) to start a
potential company on it. In future we plan to start our services from Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Financials
Our first priority will be to get our business financed through venture capitalist. If we are unable
to do so, we will arrange funding through banks loan. We are planning to start it initially from
big cities like Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. Fiber is already deployed in most of cities. The
only infrastructure cost that will be incurred will only be on wireless part. Since we are working
on a new technology, at this point of time, we have little information about the various
equipment’s prices. But we do know that our major cost will be incurred on procuring the
license, physical infrastructure and the technical equipment.

Also since we are targeting both the general public and the corporate world, we will try to
achieve our breakeven as soon as possible ( estimated time 3 years) by getting advance
payment from the corporations.

Exit Strategy
For now we are planning that we will exit by going public via IPO (Initial public offering). Also as
mentioned above, we have submitted the proposal to TIC for the opening of a potential
company in collaboration with NayaTel. So we may also merge with NayaTel in future.
