UNIT SIX: Forensic Science Lab Questions

At this point, you are asked to complete the web journey questions. Each link (the title of

Body Farm

Click on the link to listen to the podcast interview of Dr. Bill Bass, founder of the Body
Farm.

1. When Dr. Bass works cases, either cold cases or ongoing investigation, what is his
role in the investigation?

When Dr. Bass’s works cases his role in an investigation is making a difference to
recognize the body and giving clues on how they died or how long they have been
dead.

2. What role does the Body Farm play in forensic science?

Body Farm plays an important role in forensic science because it collects and has
provided all possible education and information on the decomposition of bodies.

3. What is the “sniffer”? Why could this development be important?

The sniffer is a mechanical gadget that you simply carry in your hand and walk
over the grounds of the Body Farm. The sniffer will choose up a few compounds of
decomposing bodies.

4. Are insects a fool-proof way to determine time of death? Why or why not?

Insects are not a fool-proof way to determine time of death. Insects are exterior
and flock to decaying bodies at diverse times and stages in their life. The only
issue is that not everybody dies outside in this manner utilizing insects to decide
time of death is not always conceivable or precise.
5. Why are family members or law enforcement personnel sometimes interested in
having people like Dr. Bass take a look at old cases?

Family members and law enforcement staff are in some cases curious about
having someone like Dr. Bass because a forensic anthropologist can offer
assistance solve and near cold cases even in the event that decades have gone
by.
