Analysis on the story entitled “Magnificence.

”

The story “Magnificence,” written by Estrella Alfon a feminist writer, describes
a family that trusts someone and is finally betrayed by the person himself. It is a
common experience of everybody that after having trusted someone, a person would
soon lose his or her trust on that person because, in the end, the person betrayed
them. In the story, Vicente was known by a mother of a little boy and a little girl
during the meeting of the neighborhood association. It was there when Vicente
volunteered himself to tutor the little kids. They did not fear him because he was
always so gentle and kind. He pretended to be so that he could get the trust of the
family and from the story, we can find that one of the prevailing issues is child abuse
because the complication of the story that It can be seen in the part when Vicente
continued to give pencils to the children one day as he visited them in their house, he
took advantage of the girl. The girl left queer and suddenly, she was frightened. We
all know that women before are powerless, but because of the masterpiece of
Estrella, it showed that women can stand against abuse.

Vicente’s showed his “persona” during the neighborhood association meeting. He

was able to reach out and gain the trust of the children and their mother by showing
his social personality. This is too please the children with his attitude and from the
story is rich in themes and is an excellent study in Gender relations and gender role
reversals. Thus, this stylistic analysis is framed by feminist and gender-based notions
and ideas. This analysis focuses on the descriptions of the mother and Vicente, how
these descriptions are contrastive not only against each other but also against
stereotypes of their genders, and how these descriptions and contrast change as the
story progresses.
