Folk Art

A. Problem Solving. One of the favorite pastimes that our forefathers have shared with other
members in the community or family is called “tigmo”. Tigmo is one of the long lost tradition
activities that is delightful and fun. It aimed to outsmart each other to solve a riddle in give and
take form played in a family or social gathering where technology was not around. Using some
of the famous handed down riddles, solve these riddles. Share them with your family members
to help find the answers. Write your answers in the blank provided for.

B. Compare and Contrast

Choose two works of art from two different cultures. The artwork can be from (but not
limited to) the Philippine, Egyptian, Korean, Chinese and Japanese art works.

They can be two or three- dimensional, or one of each. Compare and contrast the two

- The name of the artwork is Spolarium


b. What is the name of the artist who created the artwork?
- Juan Luna who is a Filipino painter and a political activist of the Philippine Revolution
during the late 19th century is the one who created this artwork.

- Juan Luna started this painting around July 1883 and completed it in March 1884.
d. Where was this artwork created?
- The artwork was created in Rome.
d. What kind of artwork is it? (painting, sculpture, etc)
- The artwork is a painting with the dimensions of 4.22 m × 7.675 m (13.8 ft × 25.18 ft).
e. Is it realistic, abstract or non-objective? (Why have you chosen
this/these artwork/s?)

- The Spolarium painting is realistic and we’ve chosen this painting since it is one
of the most famous artwork in the Philippines and the work testifies the talent of a
Filipino artist who is also a political activist of the Philippine Revolution that is
devoted to the liberation of his country from colonialism. Through a synthesis of
academic technique and potential allegorical interpretation, the painting is
invested with magisterial grandeur.

Picasso's muses and paramours, is the subject of the painting.

- Pablo Picasso who is a Spanish painter is the one who painted the artwork and he is
also one of the greatest artists of the 20th century that was made famous for his
paintings like 'Guernica' and for the art movement known as Cubism.

- The artwork was made on the March 1932.
d. Where was this artwork created?
- it is said that the artwork was created in New York City.

- The artwork is an oil painting with the dimensions of 162.3 cm × 130.2 cm (63.9 in ×

Pablo Picasso’s painting called Girl before a Mirror is an abstract painting and we chose
this because of its art style which is abstract and an abstract painting usually contains a
lot of meaning which varies from person to person since it depends on how a person
looks at it and analyzes it.
