Objectives
The objective of internship program is to guide the students in dealing with ambulatory patients referred to
laboratory department for laboratory tests. It provides an overview of careers within the field, education
requirements, and professional organizations. Fundamental information about clinical labs including laboratory
divisions, safety, and quality control is presented. It also deals with technical aspects of all basic laboratory
activities. This program is divided into 2 parts distributed into 2 summer semesters 3 credits each one (360
hours): MEDL 399, MEDL 399.
The first rotation covers laboratory safety and regulations, quality control, basic specimen collection, reagent
preparation and laboratory medical terminology. On the other hand it includes training in hematology, Clinical
Chemistry, parasitology, urine and body fluids analysis.
The second rotation covers different techniques and procedures used in different laboratory analyses including:
Hemostasis, Serology, blood banking, bacteriology, genetics, and special procedures.
The student will be guided to handle and acquire the following duties and regulations:

Phlebotomy – Objectives
1. To disinfect the blood collection site with appropriate disinfectant
2. To know how to apply a tourniquet and for desirable time
3. To detect the preferred venous access sites
4. To insert the needle properly for blood withdrawal
5. To take care of the patient to avoid complications during collection process

Microbiology – Objectives
