3 System
The ARD controller is consist of operation part, UPS control part, electric charge part and
electric power circuit part.

3.1 Operation part

The ATMEGA16 processor is in charge of ARD control part with operation control software and,
ATMEGA64 processor of ARDM PCB is in charge of UPS control part.

In case the power failure has happened under normal operation, the micro process of ARDM
PCB will detect the condition. If the power failure condition is maintained at least 3 seconds,
The ARD system will start to proceed rescue operation. The micro process of ARDM PCB
generates standard voltage and frequency to supply current power to elevator control panel.
The revived elevator controller by ARD checks the elevator that is under safe condition. If
the car position is level zone, the door is opened only to rescue passengers. Else if the
position is out of level zone, it compares the car and CWT weight. In case the car is heavier
than CWT, the car direction is downward. But if the CWT is heavier than car, the car
direction is upward. As the rescue operation is finished, the elevator control panel transmits
the signal to ARD controller. When the ARD controller receives the signal, it stops UPS
operation. And it displays the status of ARD controller and process of rescue operation until
main normal power is refreshed. As soon as the main normal power is refreshed, the
elevator control is returned to normal operation status.

The above flowchart shows about operation of ARD controller. When the main power is
supplied to elevator system again, the ARD controller will start charge operation for battery.
If the power failure happens again, the recharge operation is stopped and mode is change to
rescue operation. As soon as the main normal power is refreshed, the elevator control is
returned to normal operation status.

3.2 Power circuit part

It is consist of emergency power battery, Inverter device that changes DC of battery to AC,
filter and transformer that changes the PWM voltage of inverter to the shaped pulse voltage.

3.3 UPS control part

In case power failure happens, UPS controller operates the ARD control system.
The DC192 voltage of battery is changed to PWM voltage by inverter device to supply power
to main transformer (TR1). Then, its output voltage AC380Vrms is shaped as commercial
standard voltage by filter and the voltage used for the elevator control panel.
The features of UPS are followings.

a. It controls voltage and frequency that are supplied to control panel.

b. It generates constant voltage and frequency with inverter switching of high speed PWM.
Its output voltage is shaped as commercial standard voltage to prevent an error.

3.4 Recharge control part

While the elevator is operating normally, the ARD controller controls the battery voltage
that is maintained designated level.

Battery Voltage Battery Charge mode

DC216 È Quick constant current mode.
DC216~219 Slow constant current mode.
DC220 Ç Constant voltage mode

If battery voltage is under DC192V, the low voltage error is detected, Else if battery voltage is
over DC225V, the high voltage error is detected.

5 Trial run

5.1 Preparation
1) To be prepared
-. Perform trial run of ARD system after normally finishing installation of the elevator.
(ARD system may unnecessarily operate, because switching power is frequently
required while installing the elevator.)
-. Pay attention to electric shock.
-. Speed of rescue operation is 10 m/min.
-. ARD system will be activated in case of power failure. Therefore, follow the below
procedure when switching off power.

After connections of ARD, switching off MCCB in control panel in case that the work is
required on the control panel (elevator side).
If switch on builder's switchboard were turned off, the elevator would be operated by the
power of ARD system (3Φ 380V).
Electric hazard would be exposed around control panel & electric equipment even if main
switch were turned off.

[Special Note]
¾ Switching off MCCB of elevator makes switching off ARD system.
¾ High volts would be still exposed on terminal (R, S, T, U, V, W, B+, B-) even if SW1
(NFB) of ARD controller were turned off.
¾ If any service is required on ARD controller side, do not switch off SW1 (NFB) of ARD
The elevator, which is connected with ARD controller, may have emergency stop.
Switch off MCCB of elevator in order to perform the service of ARD controller.
¾ The trouble on ARD controller has no relation with elevator operation.
¾ If term of rescue operation exceeds 5 minutes, ARD controller stops UPS.
¾ ARD controller stops UPS after finishing rescue operation then ARD system will be at
the rest mode.
* If commercial standard power is not established within 1 minute after stoppage of UPS,
the power of ARD system will be off.

2) Tools & instruments

(1) Tools
* Wrench set
* Screw driver set
* Priers, cutter, Crimping pliers (For 2~14SQ, 22~38SQ)
Before using, all tools should be inspected.

(2) Instruments
* Multi meter (impedance: 1MΩ, Min. volt: 10mV)
* Hook meter (For current)
* Megger tester
* Speed meter
* Analog tester
# All instruments must be certified by the quality engineering authority.

5.2 Inspection

1) Elevator
* Inspect if all landing doors is closed and locked.
* Inspect if the elevator touches with any equipment in hoistway during operation.
* Inspect if safety line is normal.
* Inspect if the elevator is normally operated.

2) Control panel
* Inspect if control panel is cleanly arranged.
* Inspect if the connection between ARD controller & control panel is correct.

3) Battery
* Inspect if there is any abnormal issue on batteries.

* Follow the notice of battery manufacturer.

* Inspect the capacity of battery.

5.3 Inspection of electric circuit

1) Prevention of electric shock
* DC192V is energized on the end of battery and AC190V is energized on ARDP-100
PCB.
* To disconnect power of ARD, turn off main switch of elevator (MCCB), SW1 (NFB) &
SW2 (MCCB) of ARD and turn off battery switch of ARD.
* Check '0' energy before handling.

2) Preparation before megger test

* Place the elevator at intermediate floor of hoistway and keep all doors, landing & car,
being closed.
* All switches should be off position. (Main switch of builder, MCCB & lighting switch of
elevator, SW1 & SW2 of ARD, battery switch of ARD)
* Disconnect cables between ARD and control panel.
* Disconnect all connectors from PCB.
* Remove all fuses on ARDP PCB.
* Bridge the end of terminal B+ & B- each other by using clip.
* Bridge terminal R, S, T & U, V, W each other by using clip.

3) Measurement
Perform megger test and inspect if measured value is within the standard

-. Remove all bridges.
-. Return all connectors & fuses removed before.

5.4 Checking voltage

1) Preparation before power on
Switch off SW1 (NFB) & SW2 (MCCB) of ARD.

2) Checking input voltage of control panel

Check if the voltage of primary side of C9A CTT. is identical with the voltage of
secondary side MCCB and the voltage at primary side of TR1 & TR2 before power on.
* Turn on SW1 (NFB).
* Check if C9A CTT. is activated.
* Turn SW2 (MCCB).

3) Inspection of C9A CTT.

* Check if C9A CTT. is activated as SW1 (NFB) is turned on.
* It must be operated regardless of SW2 (MCCB) condition.
* Never turn off the SW1(NFB) of ARD controller when the elevator is under normal
operation. If it is turned off under normal operation, the C9A contactor is turned off. The
elevator will stop suddenly because the power of elevator is cut.

5.5 Adjustment
1) Adjustment for detecting battery voltage
Adjust VR1 resistor on ARDP PCB so that the voltage of batteries becomes the value
on annunciator. (Allowance: ±2V)

2) Setting value for detecting fault
