Quartz and Feldspar are two most abundant detrital minerals found in most rocks of the sedimentary system. Their
abundances in a rock depicts provenance setting, depositional environment, maturity, climatic conditions etc. In the
present work carried out on Talchir sandstones it is found that Quartz (avg-55%) is the dominant detrital mineral followed
by Feldspar (avg-27%). The C.M.I and the average values of Qm66P4K30 suggests these sandstones are sub-mature to
mature in nature. Analogous to this the mobility assessment of major oxides, trace elements with respect to immobile
elements also suggest their (elements) primary abundances, Th/U vs Th plot indicates low to moderate weathering (C.I.A
for sandstone ~ 61.45 and shale ~ 66.65) conditions prevailing at the time of Permo-carboniferous period. K2O/Na2O is
also >1 in sandstone samples of Talchir Formation indicating abundance of K-feldspar over plagioclase which is congruent
to petrography. Illite, smectite, kaolinite are some of the clay minerals found in these rocks other than clay minerals
carbonate (calcite) is also identified in XRD analysis depicting cold climate at the time of deposition.
