Context
The idea of this assignment is to know how to properly search for information about a
specific specialization in the College of Engineering, which you will eventually share
with your colleagues as it helps in the process of choosing the university

specialization.
So I searched for a mechanical engineering specialization to know more about this
specialization and help my colleagues to choose the appropriate option for them, and
another reason is to take a quick glimpse of what will face me during my study of this
specialization in the future.
Therefore, first, we will talk about me, what I am good and weak in it, social skills,
also the history of mechanical engineering, the nature of work and the time required to
complete projects, as well as the latest technologies used, fields of work, number of
engineers, professional society, growth of the labor market and companies, as well as
the salary package and finally the achievements of mechanical engineering in the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Saudi.

About me
Since childhood, I want to know how things work and how they relate to each other,
so when I get a gift from my family, whether toys in cars or even water pistols, I
disassemble them and try to understand how they work and sometimes try to develop It
them, and when I got my first car, any mechanical failure in the car becomes represents
a new challenge, either I fix it myself or watch the mechanic fix it, and from here my
interest in mechanical engineering began. In addition to the love of teamwork to
accomplish what is required, teamwork helps to exchange experiences, learn quickly,
provide a helping hand, and complete the work more neatly with fewer mistakes. On
the other hand, I didn't like chemistry, although it is a very interesting subject, so I do
not think that the major of chemical engineering is a suitable discipline for me.

History of mechanical engineering

Engineering in general and mechanical engineering in, particular, is to facilitate life
for people and save time and money in ways, whether primitive or simple or in
modern ways, but the first goal remains to improve the quality of life and how to use
and use the existing tools to create something that can facilitate our life and save us
time and effort. mechanical engineering is the most ancient engineering disciplines, as
it began roughly from about 6000 years BC, by photographing the first boats in the
Egyptian rock paintings and making wheeled carriages so that things could be
transported easily in southern Poland about 4000 years BC and the first sailing ship in
Egypt about 3300 years BC in Egypt and all of this was by using simple things. (1)
until the steam engine was invented in the late eighteenth century, after which the
interest in mechanical engineering and the development of machines of all kinds
began, and because of the momentum that occurred, a new classification of
engineering was developed under the name of mechanical engineering and obtained
official recognition in 1847. (2)

Mechanical engineering is one of the most diverse disciplines in the field of
engineering, where the role of a mechanical engineer is important in the manufacture of
cars, space, biotechnology, electronics, and computers, in addition to designing,
developing, building, and testing all tools and motors and all kinds of mechanical
devices. Some examples include aircraft engines, control systems, wind turbines, fuel
cells, and printers. (3) Among the fields of mechanical engineering at King Abdulaziz
University are production engineering and mechanical systems design, as well as
thermal engineering and water desalination technology. (4) As for travel, jobs vary
from one company to another, but in most cases, a mechanical engineer is not required
to travel because most of his work is in designing, developing, and supervising
production lines and ensuring the quality of the product, so he is not required to travel.

The projects differ from each other according to the company involved in this project
as well as the experienced manpower, but for example, Airbus, which specializes in
aircraft manufacturing, takes one A380 aircraft and it consists of 4 million pieces in
12 months. Therefore, the period may increase or decrease depending on the type of
project. (6)

Latest technology
The 3D printer is about making objects from a digital file after designing it, and it is
the opposite of the reverse manufacturing process, as it does not work on unloading
and drilling the piece of metal and allows the 3D printer to produce complex shapes
with materials and costs less than traditional manufacturing methods.

 After the final product is designed, it is disassembled into small parts designed within
a computer program so that the 3D printer can manufacture where it manufactures the
product parts and then begins the process of assembling small pieces from each other
to get a complete product manufactured by the 3D printer.
The field of aviation is considered one of the fields of 3D printing, as General Electric
Company has benefited from it in the manufacture of 30,000 chrome-plated fuel
nozzles for LEAP aircraft engines, as in 2018 they were producing 600 engines per
week on 40 3D printers. The LEAP engine is the best-selling engine in the aviation
industry for its high level of efficiency and GE saves $ 3 million per aircraft by 3D
printing fuel nozzles. (7)

work fields
A mechanical engineer can work in several companies, including companies that
purify, desalinate, and drain water, such as the Saudi Company for Water Purification
and Desalination, as well as in-car manufacturing companies such as General Motors,
Toyota, and others. And industrial companies as quality controllers and supervision
of power generation equipment and design and oil installations such as Aramco and
SABIC. Also, airlines such as General Electric. (8) We can say that any company
that relies on machinery and manufacturing in general, a mechanical engineer has a
role in
it. (9)

Number of mechanical engineers

There are about 3 million mechanical engineers in the European Union. (10) And
306,990 mechanical engineers in the United States of America. (11) Where the number
of mechanical engineers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reached 36,763 mechanical
engineers and the number of Saudi engineers reached 4,791 mechanical engineers.

Professional society
There is an association founded in 1880 called the American Society of Mechanical
Engineering or ASME, and it includes more than 100,000 members from more than
140 countries around the world specialized in training, development, research, and
scientific courses and facilitating the dissemination and application of engineering
knowledge. (13)

Labor market and growth

The field of mechanical engineering is a very broad field and is subject to
development, as there is an expected increase of 9% over the next decade. (14) As for
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we are witnessing many developments, as well as
interest in the industrial field, as well as the manufacture of cars by the year 2022,
which will provide jobs for mechanical engineers in Saudi Arabia. (15)

The salary
The salary package for mechanical engineers in the government sector is classified
into four categories, starting from a junior engineer to an engineering consultant,
starting from 7,560 riyals and up to 22,200 riyals and it varies according to the
engineer’s experience. 5 years, while an experienced person gets between 5-10 years’
salary of 13,279 riyals. (16)

Achievements of mechanical engineering in KSA

Among the mechanical engineering achievements in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
that we are proud of in the world are the Saline Water Desalination Corporation,
where the corporation produces water through 32 stations that produce 5.6 million
cubic meters per day, as well as operations to transport desalinated water through
pipelines with a length of 7897 km and water pumps through 63 pumping stations for
286 tanks with a capacity of 16.6 million cubic meters. The corporation has acquired
the largest facility producing desalinated seawater in the world, and the Jubail plant
has the largest production plant in the world at a rate of 1.4 million cubic meters per
day, according to the Guinness Book of Records. (17)

Discussion
In conclusion, it appeared as if mechanical engineering is an ancient and beautiful
discipline, as almost nothing around you is devoid of mechanical touches, and I
enjoyed my research in scientific sites and magazines and learned how to search for
the information you want precisely and what is the accepted method for writing
research. So, I will do my best to join this specialization. And finally, I would like to
say that no specialization is better than the other, but every major fit the intelligence
of other people, so you are the one who makes the specialization and not the
specialization is the one who makes you.
