Yared Moges, Ethiopian Water Engineer who is interested in Management

science and engineering and would like to apply as a graduate student for the master degree at
Northwestern Polytechnical University with a merit scholarship. I am currently employed by
one of the leading consulting firm government organization in Ethiopia.

I graduated from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia in July 2012 with a first class honor degree in
Water Resource and Environmental Engineering. In the University I learnt the basic principle
about water resources and environmental engineering which filled me with enthusiasm. After
graduation I joined Federal Water Works Design and supervision Enterprise, a well-known
consulting firm provide in Ethiopia that give me the opportunity to apply my knowledge in real
life situation. Now I am working as a supervisor in different sites, such in 60000 ha irrigation
canal construction and I am supervising intake tower for zoned earth -rock fill Dam, Mega
project in Ethiopia.

At my work I am responsible for controlling and optimizing the organization aims to fulfill
customers expectations with my dedication, determination and outstanding problem solving
skills, I responsible to deliver a high quality result in all areas of my work. As a team player I
have been involved in various projects and have performed well because of my adaptation
skills.

Since Ethiopia has not taken such a great step in the consulting firm internationally, it has been
my dream to contribute to the development of this technology in my country. The expansion of
the consulting firm across the country is the main sector that Ethiopia government has been
focusing on recently to establish a successful engineering management careers in organization
or governmental that will help in advancing the development of the state of Ethiopia, in
establishing in-depth proficiency in engineers management fields relevant to local and regional
organization, to develop competitive skills in problem solving techniques, inter disciplinary
teamwork and critical analysis of engineering management problems.

Having worked in the consulting firm for 3 years, I came to realize that my knowledge is still
limited in some areas. In addition to this, in my country the education on the graduate level is
considerably below the level I had expected. For these reasons, I decided to pursue the Master
of Management science and engineering degree at your university to strengthen my knowledge
and participate in the development of managing in my country. I have read through the course
descriptions which are offered and I believe that your top level program can benefit me in many
areas. Obtaining a top-quality degree from your university will not only strengthen my
knowledge in the field to cope up with the latest developments in the technology but will also
help me to fulfill my dream. The dream is to see all people in my country having all possible
managing Engineering services that are currently available for the people from the developed
world , but not in my country such as international consultants. And I am sure my dream will
come true by obtaining the education from your university.

My desire is to do my post-Master project to determine the engineering management variables

of interest and processes to manage engineering alternatives and to assess the economic,
social and environmental requirements needs and constraints of the system and its impact on
the society, have the ability to manage and administer large technical engineering projects,
budgets and existing setups effectively, to use computational tools and management software
and theories for finding analytical solutions to problems necessary for the practice of
engineering management and finally to apply behavioral principles connected with awareness,
communication, productivity, organizational changes and leadership keeping in mind the
changing nature of business strategy and economic analysis needs.

with my strong academic background and relevant work experience, I am confident that I am
well qualified and able to perform well in this field. I also believe that I can make significant
contribution to this field.
