History of Computer
First Generation -1946 to 1958

Size: Very Large System

Technology :Vacuum Tubes

Processing :Very Slow

Second Generation – 1959 - 1964

Technology :Transistors

Size : Smaller

Processing : Faster
History of Computer
Third Generation 1965-1970

Technology : ICs (Integrated Circuits) Incorporated

many transistors & electronic circuits on a single
chip

Size : Small as compared to 2nd generation computers

Processing : Faster then 2nd generation computers

Fourth Generation 1971 – today

These computers used the VLSI technology or

the Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits
technology. Therefore they were also known as the
microprocessors. Intel was the first company to
develop a microprocessor.
History of Computer
Fifth Generation

It is based on artificial intelligence, are still in

development, though there are some applications, such
as voice recognition, that are being used today. The use
of parallel processing and superconductors is helping to
make artificial intelligence a reality.
