ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We, Group , are immensely grateful and highly indebted to our revered faculty Prof. Amrita
Sengupta, Assistant Professor, M.D.I Murshidabad for his excellent guidance, sustained
interest, inspiring discussions and priceless help throughout our period of work. We are
deeply touched by his transparent approach and whole-hearted cooperation for execution
our project work.
Introduction

Process of making a Chicken Cheese Burger in Mcdonalds.

McDonald’s is a global retail burger outlet which provides various kinds of burgers and other snacks
to their customers. They usually provide their orders at a relatively small amount of time compared
to the huge quantity of orders they receive. It is for this reason that they have been able to expand
and have more than 31,000 outlets in 119 countries of the world. We are trying to find out how they
optimize their time to provide the service on time and satisfy their customers.

Process of Making a Chicken Cheese Burger in McDonald’s

A. Preparing Bread in the toaster
B. Cutting the vegetables
C. Meat de-freeze for preparation of patty
D. Frying the patty to place it inside the burger
E. Placing the patty inside the burger
F. Adding the cheese slice along with mayonnaise
G. Adding one squirt of mustard sauce and one squirt of ketchup
H. Adding onions, lettuce and tomatoes for dressing the burger
I. Adding extra mayonnaise
J. Wrapping the burger

Why we chose this topic?

Mcdonald’s is one of the established food chain having a global foothold serving a million chicken
cheese burger in a day including both dine-in and by home delivery with dine-in being more
prominent but The coronavirus pandemic has orchestrated a shift in consumer behavior, with more
people opting for takeaway options, and led to the rise of home- delivery service that ensure
restaurant-like food at home.

Keen to stay away from restaurants, diners have shown a propensity for takeaway options, leading
to a shift towards home delivery .

And the time taken in making a chicken cheese burger and delivering is considerable, so, we will try
to optimize it by applying Critical Path Method(CPM) and travelling sales-man method.

Optimization of setting up of cloud kitchen

For optimization of the time required in making a chicken cheese burger, we will use:

Critical Path Method (CPM)

Critical path method (CPM) is a resource-utilization algorithm for scheduling a set

of project activities. The essential technique for using CPM is to construct a model of the project that
includes the following:

• A list of all tasks required to complete the project

• The dependencies between the tasks

• The estimate of time (duration) that each activity will take to complete

• Advantages of using Critical Path Method(CPM):

• Offers a visual representation of the project activities.

• Presents the time to complete the tasks and the overall project.

• Tracking of critical activities.

TRAVELLING SALESMAN

The Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) is the challenge of finding the shortest
yet most efficient route for a person to take given a list of specific
destinations. Here the person must travel to each of the destinations once and
then get back to the original position.

Limitations and Conclusions

Limitations:
1. Due to lack of cost related data we could not crash the CPM Model
in this data to find out the optimal level of cost to which the path
could be crashed.
2. For the travelling salesman part we used google maps to find out
the time taken to deliver to the various points in the city of Kolkata.
3. We have considered only one travelling salesman for the project so
that we can optimize the route for it.
Conclusions:
1. We found out the critical path of making a chicken cheese burger
through which we can get a fair idea of the longest distance taken in
the process. Through this can find out a way to optimize the process
more so as to both save them time and money.
2. From the travelling salesman part we found out the correct route to
be followed so as to minimize the delivery time and reach back to
the outlet. Through this they can deliver more products in the same
timeframe than they used to do previously.

We mainly worked with primary data as we were able to collect these data from MR. Sumedh owner
of “The cloud Kitchen” which is a cloud kitchen based in pune.He shares his expertise and knowledge
over a zoom call.
