Learning Activity

Directions: Write a script of a dialogue of at least 100 words using your own words containing different
types of phrases and underline the different types of phrases. In separate sheet of bond paper, encode
the underlined phrases and indicate its type opposite of every phrase. (at least 2 phrases for its type).

The Molud family talks about a plan to take a vacation in Baguio. Christian, the son who is the eldest in the family,
opens the conversation about the vacation.

Christian: It is been really long we have not gone anywhere.

Venice: Dad and Mom, let’s plan something for this summer.

Vanessa and Jun, the parents of Christian and Venice, look to each other after their kids opened about the plan.

Father: Alright, let’s go to Davao next month.

Mother: No, we are not going to Davao. We will go to idyllic and peaceful place where we can relax and find peace.

Christian: I and Venice would like to go Baguio. I think Mom wants to go there, too.

Venice: Yes, I agree. But Mom, do you really seeking peace?

Mother: Right Venice!

Venice: That sounds fun, how will we get there?

Christian: I want to take a train, but Dad prefers to ride his car.

Mother: Don’t you like using the train, dear?

Father: The train station is far away and riding our car doesn’t cost so much.

Christian: Okay dad. I am really excited, considering all the scenery that will be there.

Venice: I am looking forward to the scenery, having seen the beauty of the place in the television.
(She is looking very much excited, her face expressing a hint of excitement.)

Father: For the information of everybody, Venice dreamed last night. She smelled of strawberries and peanut
brittle. (laughing)

Venice: Dad! (grinning) Going to that wonderful place next month, I will wear my very comfortable shoes.

Mother: I am so excited. I guess this vacation will be fun. I am planning to do something fun. Strolling along the
beautiful picturesque with your father is romantic.

Their faces are smiling, their whole family shouted for excitement.

KIND OF PHRASES DESCRIPTIONS


Gerund Phrase  It includes a gerund and its modifiers, objects,
or complements. It always functions as a noun.
Appositive Phrase  It is a noun phrase or any other type of phrase
functioning as a noun that renames a
noun/pronoun preceding it.

Noun Phrase  It consists of a noun and all of its modifiers. It


can function in a sentence as a subject, object,
or complement.

Prepositional Phrase  It often functions as an adjective or adverb, but


it can function as a noun as well.
 It begins with a preposition and ends with a
noun or pronoun.

Adjective Phrase  It usually starts with a preposition (e.g., of, in,


on) or a participle (e.g., taken, leaving) and
follows the noun it is modifying.

Verb Phrase  It includes a main verb and its helping verbs. It


can function only as the predicate of a
sentence.
Adverbial Phrase  It is a group of related words which play the role
of an adverb. Like all phrases, an adverbial
phrase does not include a subject and a verb.

Infinitive Phrase  It consists of an infinitive and its modifiers,


objects, or complements. It can function as a
noun, adjective, or adverb.
Participial Phrase  It consists of a present or past participle and its
modifiers, objects, or complements. It always
functions as an adjective.
Absolute Phrase  It often includes a noun or pronoun, a participle,
and any modifiers, objects or complements of
the phrase and usually set off by commas, it
modifies an entire sentence rather than a
specific word.
