CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 DEFINITION OF TRACER STUDY

Tracer study is research on alumni situation, especially in terms of job search,

work situation, and competency utilization during college. This study is able to

provide a variety of useful information for the purposes of evaluating the results

of higher education and can then be used to improve and guarantee the quality of

institutions of Dili University.

1.2 TRACER STUDY OBJECTIVE

Tracer study aims to :

1.2.1 Knowing the results of education in the form of a transition from the world

of higher education to the world of work.

1.2.2 Knowing the output of education is self-assessment of mastery and

competence.

1.2.3 Knowing the education process in the form of evaluation of the learning

process and the contribution of higher education to competence and

educational input in the form of further excavation of graduate information.

1.3 BENEFITS OF TRACER STUDY

The benefits of tracer study are not limited to college, but can further provide

important information about the relationship (link) between the world of higher

education and the world of work. Tracer study can present in-depth and detailed

information about the match of work both horizontally (between various fields of

science) and vertical (between various levels / strata of education).

Thus, tracer study can help overcome the problem of employment opportunity

gap and improvement efforts. For universities information about competencies

relevant to the world of work can help in the improvement of curriculum and

learning systems.On the other side, the industrial world and the world of work can

see into higher education institutions through tracer study, and thus can prepare

themselves by providing more relevant training for alumni.

For Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing Department, tracer

study is carried out to get the following benefits:

1.3.1 As a data base of alumni recorded based on the Study Program and graduate

year.

1.3.2 As input/information for the development of the institution.

1.3.3 As an evaluation material to see the relevance between the college and the

world of work.

1.3.4 As input for the improvement of the performance of lecturers and academic

support personnel.

1.3.5 As an input for curriculum improvement.

1.3.6 As a material to build a network with alumni.

TRACER STUDY METHOD

2.1 IMPLEMENTING ORGANIZATION

Tracer study activities are carried out by the tracer study team consisting of

Quality Assurance Unit, Student Affairs, Academic and Department.

2.2 STAGES AND IMPLEMENTATION OF TRACER STUDY

Alumni tracking methods conducted at Dili University, Faculty of Health,

Bachelor Nursing Department, expertise:

2.2.1 The director formed the tracer study team.

2.2.2 The tracer study team compiled and published a tracer study questionnaire.

2.2.3 Tim Tracer Study mengumpulkan data base alumni yang diperoleh dari

Program Studi.

2.2.4 Disseminate information about filling tracer study to alumni through:

 Fill out a study tracer form for students who are working in dili.

 The dissemination of tracer study filling information was carried out

during 1 month.

2.2.5 Filling tracer study conducted by graduates / alumni who have obtained a

job.

2.2.6 The tracer study team conducts data management and data analysis.

2.2.7 The tracer study team made a tracer study report and reported it to the

Director of the Bachelor Nursing Department.

2.2.8 The Tracer Study team published the tracer study report.

2.3 TRACER STUDY SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

Web-based tracer study systems utilizing information technology will be used

as a system in the implementation of this Tracer Study. The development of this

system is planned to be integrated with academic information system

activities.This is expected to be more interesting and facilitate both in data

collection and in its analysis. But the existing system needs to be improved and

added features.

RESULTS AND ANALYSIS

3.1 RESULTS TRACER STUDY DILI UNIVERSITY, FACULTY OF

HEALTH, BACHELOR NURSING DEPARTMENT.

3.1.1 NUMBER OF RESPONDENTS

The implementation of tracer study activities obtained the following primary

data:

Of the total population of survey targets, namely alumni of Dili University,

Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing Department graduates in 2020 as many as 46

who are regular students of Bachelor Nursing, who filled out a questionnaire

tracer study as many as 8 alumni. Then obtained a percentage of 17% (8 alumni)

who do not fill and 83% (38 alumni) who fill. So most of the alumni have not yet

got a job.

Based on Figure 2, of the 8 alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health,

Bachelor Nursing Department graduates in 2020 who have filled out tracer study,

most or 75% (6 alumni) are female and a small part or 25% (2 Alumni) are male.

A total of 7 (87%) alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor

Nursing Department graduated in 2020 stated that they had worked in central

government agencies / Minister of Health timor-Leste. There are 1 (13%) alumni

who claim to work in Non Government Organization (NGO).

Most (50%) alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing

Department graduates in 2020 declared to get a job within 3-6 months after

graduation. A small percentage (38%) get a job in less than 3 months after

graduation and a small percentage (12%) get a job more than six months after

graduation.

The vast majority (87%) alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health,

Bachelor Nursing Department graduates in 2020 stated actively seeking

information to get a job and a small percentage (13%) passive or get a job because

it was offered by someone else.

Almost half (62%) alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor

Nursing Department graduates in 2020 stated to get job information from

electronic media. A small percentage (25%) get information from daily journal

and a small percentage get information from family and friends.

Almost all (87%) alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor

Nursing Department graduates in 2020 stated to get a job in the field of health and

a small percentage (13%) work outside the field of health.

Based on the analysis of data that has been obtained from the tracer study

team, 27% of alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing

Department graduates in 2020 have the ability in integrity (Ethics and

Morality),as many as 6% have the ability in Professionalism in the area of

expertise, 27% have the ability in the Mastery of Information Technology, 13%

have the ability in communication, alumni who have the ability in Team Work as

much as 17% and 10% others in personal enhancement.

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

4.1 CONCLUSIONS

Some things that can be concluded from the implementation of this tracer

study include:

4.1.1 Of the total survey target population, namely alumni of Dili University, Faculty

of Health, Bachelor Nursing Department graduates in 2020 amounted to 83%

(38 alumni) who did not fill and 17% (8 alumni) who filled. So most of the

alumni haven't worked yet.

4.1.2 There are several possible causes of the low response of alumni, including the

low concern of alumni with their alma mater so that the low desire to be

involved in the survey. In addition, there are some alumni who are still waiting

for the results of job tests that have been followed.

4.1.3 As many as 87% of alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor

Nursing Department graduates in 2020 stated that working in central government

agencies / Minister of Health Timor-Leste. 13% of alumni say they are working

in an Non Government Organization (NGO).

4.1.1 The average respondent gets a job within 3-6 months after graduation, it can be

concluded that graduates of Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing

Department graduates in 2020 easily get a job evidenced by most alumni get

jobs after graduation.

4.2 SUGGESTIONS

From the tracer study conducted, as for some of the things that became

recommendations, namely:

4.2.1 From the results of this study tracer, it can be used as an improvement material

about things that are felt less by alumni of Dili University, Faculty of Health,

Bachelor Nursing Department graduates in 2020. In addition, tracer study is

carried out to help in academic matters, for example for accreditation,

improvement of the curriculum process, and others.

4.2.2 Should Dili University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing Department

improve alumni, in order to establish good communication, in addition, Dili

University, Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing Department will be easier to

know the existence of alumni, and alumni know the condition of Dili University,

Faculty of Health, Bachelor Nursing Department, and also to be able to help

improve access to job information for newly graduated alumni.

4.2.3 Tracer study should be carried out continuously, so that it is easier to know the

existence of alumni completely. In addition, the questionnaire created refers to

the tracer study followed and the required needs of the study program.

4.3 FOLLOW-UP

The follow-up that is expected to be carried out by each work unit in

accordance with the above recommendations is as follows:

4.3.1 Consider alumni and user input for curriculum improvement to provide

competencies in accordance with those required by graduate users through

curriculum review.

4.3.2 Improving the learning process by doing more student centered learning so as to

train student activeness and train students' abilities in critical thinking.

4.3.3 Conduct Objective Structure Clinical Examination (OSCE) exam workshops to

lecturers as part of improving lecturers' ability to conduct Objective Structure

Clinical Examination (OSCE) exams so as to evaluate students' ability to analyze

patient problems and in performing skills / procedures so as to produce

competent and ready-to-use graduates.
