Dear Austin Film Society,

I am interested in interning for you. One day, I’d like to get a job in the film industry and hope that interning for
the society will help teach me.

I hope to either be an animator, a screenplay writer or a cinematographer. It intrigues me how the Austin Film
Society helps filmmakers who are struggling to start somewhere, trying to get their work out into the public. You
probably even help launch the careers of very successful people. It would be an honor to help be a part of making
people’s cinematic dreams come true.

I am currently a 10th grader at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. I am in the Media Tech
pathway class, which teaches all aspects of film. Having a teacher with experience in film and TV, he knows what
he’s doing and can explain how the things we’re learning can apply to the real world film industry. So far in the
course, I’ve learned the following programs:
• Final Cut pro
• Garage Band
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe After Effects
I have a basic understanding of these programs and could make a simple film or animation. At ARS, we’re also
encouraged to do service work. I have done about 40 hours of service work at the Society before, helping out
with Summer Camps by assisting students with filming and editing. Prior to that, I have participated in some of
the camps myself. It was a fun experience, and it made me more interested in becoming a part of this business.

Having primary knowledge of the Austin Film Society, I have an idea of what the environment is like and how
some things work around there. I know a worker of yours, Jonny Stranger, who believes I could make a good
candidate for interning at the Society. By best possible way, I can be reached by email: LeslieSmeaton@gmail.
com if there are any questions concerning anything else you would need to know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and I hope you can see me as a probable candidate for
internship.

I got this certificate from volunteering at an organization called
Operation Blue Santa. This organization is run by the Austin
Police Department and gives gifts to children of unfortunate
families. These gifts are donated by other kids at the Chuy’s
Children Giving to Children christmas parade. I helped out by
wrapping a lot of the gifts that were donated.

The certificate I recieved at a ceremony in 7th grade making me a member of
the NJHS chapter at The Ann Richards School.
7
This was a certificate I recieved in 6th grade for academic
achievement in my world cultures class.

8
This certificate that I recieved in 6th grade is for being on the
semester honor roll. I always did well in my classes, earning
mostly A’s which I got awarded for.

This certificate states that I had perfect attendence all my 6th

For this assignment, I had to create a civilization type environment us-
ing Adobe Photoshop. I decided to make a rainforest civilization. The
final product had to have objects from at least 8 different pictures. I
used pictures of a forest (the main background), some hills, a rainbow,
a sky, a hut, a parrot, a fern, and a bush. The hut, parrot, fern, and bush
I cut from a picture by itself and then copied so I could have more of it
in the picture so I could show a little more diversity in my final prod-
uct. The huts, for example, came from a picture of a single hut which
I cut out and then copied 3 times. I then made each individual one
unique so that they didn’t all look the same.

This is a test for my pre-AP Chemistry class that I passed. Sci-
ence is usually not my strongest subject, so earning this high
grade made me feel proud and believe that I can always try my
best.
13
This is an animation I created using Adobe After Effects.
The main point of this assignment was to learn how to
make an animated character talk. I had to make up a 50
word story, record my voice, then match up the mouths
to the audio. Since South Park is done in a simple cut-
out style, our teacher thought it would be easier to ani-
mate in this way to teach us about matching up the dif-
ferent types of mouths to the words.
