Algebra I
Final Assignment

I. Quadratics/Factoring
Factor each completely and solve the equation for the variable. Each of
them is factorable, so DO NOT use the quadratic formula!

1. x2 – 11x + 18 = 0

2. 2x2 – 13x – 4 = –25

3. 5x2 = –80x –140

4. 36x2 – 121 = 0

5. 12x2 + 2x = 70

II. Systems
Solve the system using elimination or substitution (your choice).

1. 4x + 7y = 41
6x – 5y = –47

2. x = 9 – 20y
5x – 16y = 74

III. Radicals

1. Multiply and simplify: 9 √ 2∗−7 √30

2. Simplify: 2 √ 18+ 4 √ 20−19 √50−√ 45

IV. Equations of Lines

1. Find the slope of the line that contains the points (7, –1) and (–10, 3)

3
2. Find the equation of the line perpendicular to y= 4 x +8 and
contains the point (3, 11)

3. Find the equation of the line that contains the points (1, 2) and (5, –6)

V. Word Problems
1. A landscaper is trying to kill weeds in a customer’s lawn. The
number of weeds in the lawn can be modeled by the equation…

−1 2
w= h +14 h+20
4

Where “w” represents the number of weeds in the lawn and

“h” represents time in hours. The landscaper puts down a
fertilizer that will eventually kill all of the weeds, but it takes
some time before the fertilizer begins to take effect. Find the
maximum number of weeds that will grow in the lawn before the
fertilizer begins to kill the weeds.

2. A bottle rocket is launched off the 25-foot-tall bleachers with an

initial velocity of 48 ft/s. Find the amount of time it will take
before the bottle rocket reaches the ground.

3. A catering company is preparing trays of chicken parmesan and

trays of penne vodka for graduation party. The trays of chicken
cost $8.50 and the trays of pasta cost $5.00 to prepare. The
company spent $138 total and prepared 22 trays of food. Find
the number of each tray that was prepared.

VI. Functions/Graphs
Use the graph or the equations to solve each of the following…
1
g ( x )=4 x 2− x h ( x ) =√ 4 x +2 x
2

1. Find the domain of f(x).

2. Find the range of f(x).

3. Find the intervals where f(x) is increasing.

4. Find the intervals where f(x) is decreasing.

5. Find the g(18).

6. Find (g(h(16))

7. Find the f(6).
