Starch Extraction

Name: Maranda Ryan P. Section: QqRr

Date: October 17 2021 Score:

1. Why did the starch separate from the water and settle to the bottom?
The starch separates from the water and settle to bottom because starch is insoluble to water. In
addition, the fact that is changed in to form of solid particles gives us idea that it has higher density
than the water thereby setting at the bottom of the water.
2. What are the components of starch?

The components of starch are amylopectin and amylose.

3. How do these molecules differ from each other?
The amylose and amylopectin are differed in structure whereby the amylose is a straight chain
polymer whereas amylopectin is a branched chain polymer
4. How is starch used in the human body?
Starch has many uses. Your body digests starch to make glucose, which is a vital energy source for
every cell.
Part C. Using Haworth conformation, draw the structure of each starch component. Encircle and label
each type of glycosidic bond in each structure.
The white powdery
texture is the starch
