I. Rationale

Unexpected happens and changing weather causes a lot of problem to our life, and

a sudden downpour of raindrops leads us to wet again our wash clothes. People trying

themselves to be more vigilant to the natural phenomena: rain.

Rain is a natural phenomenon which form into liquid water that condensed from

atmospheric water vapor and start the precipitation. And it is also a major component

of the water cycle that is responsible for giving most of the fresh water on the Earth.

According to Aquaread Ltd., Electrical Conductivity of water is its ability to

conduct an electric current. Salts or other chemicals that dissolve in water can break

down into positively and negatively charged ions. These free ions in the water

conduct electricity, so the water electrical conductivity depends on the concentration

of ions.

Alarm system allows them to be cognizant where it be able to catch their attention or

focus to be vigilant to the surrounding. Alarm system has many forms such as noise,

light-blinking, etc. Its purpose is to create signal or warning for the upcoming threat.

Thus, researchers formulated a scientific device Morisette: Innovation of

Alternative Rain Alarm and Detector ft. Light Blink which can help people to be

aware when the rain start.

The device was constructed with the purpose to stay on alert and helps people to

know when a sudden raindrops fell on their house.

II. Materials

Materials used:

 Bike Buzzer

 50-100 cm^2Foil Paper

 Popsicle Sticks

 10-50 cm Wires

 Pair of 9 Volts battery

 Switch

 Small Electrical Light

 Glue stick and Glue gun

 1/8 Illustration Board

 Paint

III. Methodology

To create the device, it needs to follow these steps:

1. Gather all the materials.

2. To form a house using popsicle stick it needs to:

a) Gather 16 pieces of popsicle stick for all sides of the house even for the

roof and the floor

b) Create a triangular form for the front and back of the house

c) Seal it using glue gun with a glue stick

d) Use marker to mark the popsicle that needs to cut

e) Cut the unneeded space

f) Then, create a rectangular form from the 16 pieces of popsicle sticks for the

sides

g) Make sure it coordinates with the shortest length of the triangular form

h) Place a glue all over it for sealing it

i) Marked it up and cut the unneeded spaces

j) Next, for the roof, make sure that all 16 pieces of popsicle stick is align to

each other

k) Marked it up and cut the above portion only

l) Next, for the floor, put all 16 pieces of popsicle sticks

m) Then put a cut portion of another 16 pieces of popsicle

n) And lastly put it on a painted illustration board while assembling and

sealing it with glue

3. For the rain detector to function it must follow the followings:

a) Divide the aluminum into two for the positive and negative conductor

b) Attach the battery connectors to the batteries

c) Connect the negative wire of the first (9-volts) battery to the switch

d) Connect the positive wire of the first (9-volts) battery to the foil

e) Solder the second (9-volts) battery’s negative wire to the speaker

f) Connect the positive wire of the second (9-volts) battery to the foil

g) Detach the batteries of the electrical light

h) Attach a positive and negative wires on the electrical light

i) Connect the positive wire to the foil

j) Connect the negative wire to the battery

k) Attach a positive wire on the battery of the electrical light

l) Connect the positive wire to the aluminum

m) Secure the connections of the battery and wires by putting electrical tape

How to use:

Just pour a water to the sensor and the device will alarm and create noise and offs

its light for notifying the household owner.

IV. Functionality

The concept of scientific device Morisette: Innovation of Alternative Rain Alarm

and Detector ft. Light Blink is to improvise an alarm using the water electrical

conductivity. Just putting a drop of water to the designated space it creates an

intervention for the electricity to flow, making the buzzer to noise.

Conductivity is the ability of a solution, a metal or a gas - in brief all materials - to

pass an electric current. In solutions the current is carried by cations and anions

whereas in metals it is carried by electrons.

Conductivity of water allows measuring ionic constituents of all types of water

including surface waters, process waters in water supply and treatment plants.
