Sustainability Photo Essay Competition 2021

BACKGROUND:
YES-O is holding a photo essay competition based on this year’s theme:
“________________________.”
Photo Essay Competition provides a platform for students to showcase their skills in
photography and storytelling. A photo essay combines these two elements that
convey ideas or tell a story. In accordance with the theme, we are looking for photo
essays that capture environmental awareness even in this time of pandemic.

ENTRY DETAILS AND GUIDELINES:

1. The contest is open to all Manila Junior High School (JHS) and Senior
High School (SHS) students.
2. Photos should be taken at home.
3. Each photographic essay of up to two (2) images constitutes one (1) entry.
One (1) photo of the subject and a mandatory selfie with the subject to verify
photo authenticity. Each school shall be allowed to submit one (1) entry.
4. Photographs must:
a. have been shot by the participant within the year 2021, which is
correlated to the theme.
b. be at least 5MP resolution in JPEG format. Only photos taken with
phone cameras are allowed.
c. NOT include photographer’s name so that the entries will be judged
based solely on the images without biases and distractions.
d. NOT violate or infringe upon another person’s copyright.
e. NOT have been part or won any other competition or offered
elsewhere for publication or have been published.
f. NOT be altered beyond what is allowed for the contest. Judges reserve
the right to disqualify photos if it is determined that a photographer
has obviously altered his or her photo beyond what is acceptable.
5. Descriptions must:
a. be relevant to the competition theme and complement the photos
submitted.
b. be one to three-paragraph essay in English (Taglish is not allowed),
with no more than 300 words, appropriately titled, that explains the
message of the photo. The concept should be obvious in the essay.
6. Participants must register and upload their entry through the following link:

7. Naming convention: All file names should contain the name of the school first
followed by the initial of participant’s first name and full last name including
the Photo-essay title (e.g., C.Arellano High
School_J.DelaCruz_Go_Green_Help_Clean). Entries with incomplete details or
requirements are automatically disqualified.

8. Entries must be submitted not later than ______________. Announcement

of winners will be on _________________.
 9. The winners will be selected by a committee organized by the YES-O Club
Manila. The decision of the preliminary and final panel of judges shall be
deemed final.
10.Questions and inquiries may be sent to the YES-O adviser of the school.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:

The entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
● Relevance to theme – 30%
● Creativity -30%
● Overall storytelling – 30%
● Visual impact -10%

Judging shall always be on the photo and the essay in combination.
