Abstract: A Vegetable cutting machine was designed and constructed. It is semi-automated to reduce the effort of human
effort. The vegetable is kept on the cutter bed made of wooden material and the rotation of the crank(handle) which done
manually by hand will reciprocate the connecting rod and the blade will perform linear up and down motion in the y axis of the
cutting blade which will cut the required vegetables placed in the wooden table .

1. Introduction

In olden days, knifes are used for vegetable cutting, it requires more time. In addition, skill was required for chopping
vegetables finely. There is chance of getting injuries cutting the vegetables due to negligence or recklessness. In present days,
life styles of the people are changed. In most of the families, both of the couple are working in the companies. Therefore, they
do not have time for cooking so they are depending on the hotels near the working and living areas. The investigation on the
existing vegetable cutting machine reviews the following drawbacks such as high investment cost, the contamination,
additional manpower and time consumption caused by manual processing. As the time goes by, the slicing technology has
been developed to overcome these problems. Slicing machine was designed to ease the cutting of vegetables, to eliminate the
time wasted and to avoid injuries when using the knife. Of late, processes which were manual before are slowly being
converted to semi-automated nature.

2. Literature Survey
2.1 Potato cutting machine
Htay Win et al. (2019) This examination exhibits the plan and execution investigation of potato cutting machine (shaft
structure and rectangular cutting sharp edge). The fundamental reasons for this examination are to build the potato cutting
machine and does execution test. And afterward, the static auxiliary examination of the pole is finished by utilizing ANSYS
14.5 programming. At that point, the hypothetical and explanatory consequences of von-Misses stresses and compelling strain
are thought about. In this examination, shaft width is determined by utilizing ASME code condition. Mellow steel shaft is
chosen for configuration to acquire high quality. The length of shaft is 600mm and the determined distance across of turning
shaft is 20mm. Single-push profound furrow metal balls 6804 and 6904 are chosen. The pressure investigation for shaft is led
utilizing ANSYS14.5 by numerical methodology and furthermore the von-Misses stresses and powerful strain are determined
hypothetically.

2.2 Vertical vegetable cutting machine

William C et al. (2014) A vertically broadening base of rectangular cross segment with an upwardly opening
compartment in that is adjustably gotten inside the comparatively designed downwardly opening assembly of an overlying
lodging. The upper finish of the base removable mounts a shaper plate. The top board of the lodging removable mounts a palm-
held force unit. The force unit, through a focal opening in the top board, mounts components which secure a vegetable for pivot
by the force unit as the lodging is moved downwardly over the base for commitment of the vegetable logically with the shaper
plate. The parts dismantle and store in settled connection to one another.

2.3 Paneer cutting machine

Avinash V et al. (2017) this examination paper manages issues of manual paneer cutting in industry. The assembling procedure
is currently persistently in process. In the wake of assembling, the paneer pieces ought to be cut in the necessary sizes and get
pressed. In Ardash Soya Products, this work is going physically. As the manual impedance is included, the cutting and pressing
activity making issue. Additionally, it is tedious. In addition, when the pieces get cut, it ought to be of the necessary weight.
For that the principle intention is to focus on paneer cutting and bundling. Along these lines, the point of the venture is to give
cutting framework and recommend bundling unit the financial downturn is among the most exceedingly terrible foe to the
entirety of humanity. The insecure economy execution additionally making enterprises breakdown particularly the low and
medium went firm. This would a lot of effect the augmentation of nourishment costs and all food supplies that accessible in the
market. The vast majority of the nourishment processor accessible in the market is imported and exorbitant just as extra labor
and time utilization brought about by manual handling.

2.4 Fruit and vegetable cutting machines

One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a machine for dicing whole vegetables or fruits and the
operation of which may be so regulated and controlled as to produce individual fruit particles of a desired, predetermined size.
Another object is to provide simple and efficiently operating means for progressively feeding the whole fruit or vegetable to
two series of reciprocating cutting knives disposed at right angles to each other, to cut the fruit" or vegetable into strips of a
predetermined cross-Sectional area. Another object of the invention resides" in the provision of cutting means rotatably
mounted beneath the knife carrying frames for cutting" the strips into cube or dice shaped form, together with variable speed
operating means therefor and which also controls the operating speed of said feeding means. Another important object of sides
in the provision of means whereby the linear cutter may be adjusted so as to provide fruit or vegetable cubes of a desired
predetermined thickness. Other desirable practical features of the invention comprise an improved mounting for the
reciprocating knife carrying frames, and means whereby provision is made for the interchangeable use of a plurality of feeding
cylinders of various shapes and sizes.

2.5 Leaf cutting machine (root vegetable)

Cedomir Repac et al. (2016) The creation identifies with a gadget for cutting leafy foods, specifically onions, having a shaper
part that has a majority of sharp edges and having a partner component against which the shaper part is squeezed for slicing the
material to be cut, wherein the partner component has a punch which presses the material to be sliced through the shaper part,
or the edges thereof. For accepting the cut material, a holder is releasable arranged on the shaper part, on its side remote.

While all these devices fulfill their respective, particular objectives and requirements, the above-mentioned patents do not
disclose a new vegetable cutting device. The inventive device includes a cutting board having a cutting board top surface and
an aperture formed in a center thereof, a turntable having a shaft integrally formed perpendicularly to a center of a bottom
surface thereof, the shaft being receivable within the aperture, a means for cutting mounted upon the cutting board top surface,
and a basket having a plurality of perforations formed on a bottom shelf thereof and being hinged attachable to the cutting
board.

In these respects, the vegetable cutting device according to the present invention substantially departs from the conventional
concepts and designs of the prior art, and in so doing provides an apparatus incorporating a turntable for placement thereon of
the vegetables to be cut and chopped.

Objectives
• The primary objectives of designing this semi-automated multipurpose vegetable slicing machine is to improves the
time constraint problem to cut a large amount of vegetables into smaller size and to design and fabricate a simple
automated machine that easy to control with multipurpose function for industrial usage. Thereby eliminating the
associated difficulties of manual vegetable cutting.
• Use simple design and mechanisms (slider crank mechanism), thereby eliminating the difficulties associated with
traditional method.
• Provide an alternative to the existing automated system mainly, targeting the financial factor

4. Conclusions

Thus, we have come up with a low-cost semi-automatic vegetable cutting machine. We have been able to design and develop a

Semi-automatic vegetable cutting machine for different objectives using slider-crank mechanism. In this paper the attempt

made for designing and manufacturing of semi-automatic vegetable cutting machine was successful. This vegetable cutter is

less prone to muscular stress. Precaution must be taken into work while placing the vegetable under the blades before cutting.
