ORAL COMMUNICATION IN CONTEXT

Oral Performance Task: Informative Commercial
I. GRASPS
Goal: Your goal is to raise awareness about the factors affecting the dimensions of communication,
using effective verbal and nonverbal communication that is driven by a function of
communication; all evident in an infomercial.
Role: You are a social media influencer.
Audience: Your audience are the netizens.
Situation: An online video contest is viral on social media. The winner will be given 100,000 worth of
facemasks and PPEs in which will be donated to the medical front liners of the winner’s
chosen hospital or community.
Performance: The aspiring contestants are expected to come up with a five-to-10 minute infomercial,
showing the issues (communication breakdown) concerning with age (integrating the
lessons discussed in the Personality Development subject) with the use of effective verbal
and nonverbal communication. The video presentation needs to be driven by a particular
purpose (functions); whether to inform, to motivate, to socialize, to regulate and control,
or to elicit emotion from the audience. The contestants are allowed to use any recording
platforms that they find convenient and suitable. The outputs will be uploaded on the
Google Drive that I will be giving before the submission.
Standards: The video presentation of the learners will be graded based on the attached rubric at the latter
part of this material.

IV. REMINDERS
A. Content of the Video
 Make sure to integrate the lessons you had in Personality Development about adolescence. Keep in mind
that the communication breakdown that you will be highlighting is mainly rooted on age, which is one
of the factors affecting the dimensions of communication. You can choose which dimension your output
will focus.
 Come up with a creative, concise, and catchy title for your infomercial.
 Check whether the sound of your video is clear or not. Afterwards, decide if subtitles are to be considered.

B. Verbal and Nonverbal Communication

 Make sure that the lines are well-distributed. It is important for each member to have adequate screen
time to clearly demonstrate the criteria needed under nonverbal communication. The lines must be well-

executed, accompanied by appropriate nonverbal mechanisms. Remember that even though this is a
group performance task, the criteria under this lesson will be used to grade you individually.

C. Google Meeting/ Messenger Video Call of Group Members, Attendance, and Participation
 Since the entire two weeks (October 14-25) will be used for you to accomplish your performance task,
you will be utilizing the entirety of our scheduled time to virtual meet and collaborate as a group.
Virtual meet your group mates for initial planning, brainstorming, and distribution of tasks.
 Learners who are not participating in their respective groups will be considered absent. The group
leaders will be asked to document and monitor the attendance for the day of the meeting/planning as
well.
 Remember that NO PARTICIPATION MEANS REMOVAL FROM THE GROUP. This will be
decided by the group leader, which should be based on credible pieces of evidence. Once a member is
removed, he/she is expected to come up with the performance task on his/her own.
 Updates regarding the progress after the protected time will be communicated to the teacher by the
group leaders.

D. Final Outputs
 The final outputs will be uploaded on the given Google Drive.
 Make sure to rename the file following this format: GRADE LEVEL-SECTION_GROUP
NO._INFOMERCIAL_TITLE(Example: 12-HUMSS A_GROUP 1_INFOMERCIAL_YOUR
CATCHY TITLE)

E. Groupings
 Refer to a separate list for your group mates. Message me immediately if there are conflicts.

V. Rubric
Your output will be graded based on the following criteria.
