Lesson Plan: 3rd Grade Math / Odd or Even?

Objectives & Outcomes


● Students will be able to categorize odd and even numbers. Students will be able to
identify the difference between odd and even numbers as well as answer, what makes a
number even/odd?
Required Materials:
● Computer / Chromebook (Charger)
● Access to Wi-Fi (Google Docs, Canvas)
Anticipatory Set:
● Have each student grab 10 crayons. Then, count how many crayons we have. Next, each
student will pair up their crayons with another crayon. I’ll then explain how 10 (10
crayons) is an even number. I’ll do the same for 8 crayons, 6 crayons, 4, crayons, and 2
crayons. Each of these examples will allow me to explain how each of these numbers
have a partner/are even.
● Then, proceed to use this example but with odd numbers (9 crayons, 7 crayons, etc.)
Procedures:
● Taking a look at our presentation to learn about even and odd numbers
○ Throughout the presentation, there will be examples/problems for students to
solve and discuss with the entire class.
● After the lesson, I will go over the assignment as well as the handout on how to access it.
● The students will then have to complete the assignment through Canvas, until the due
date.
Special Needs Accomodation:
● Students can either complete the Google Doc assignment, or use ULS. ULS stands for
Unique Learning System, which is a solution designed specifically to help students with
learning needs master their state’s extended standards.
Plan For Independent Practice:
● Students will access an assignment through Google Docs titled, “Even or Odd?”. This
assignment will contain a 3x10 table. Each box will contain a number. With the color key
on top, each student will highlight each number with the according color depending if it’s
even or odd.
Closure:
● Before the dismissal, I will assign a random number to each individual student. Once they
get their number, they will raise their hand, and tell me if their number is even or odd.
