PRODUCTION BOOKLET
WILL BERNARD
Concept
the story starts off by following a little boy who is lost in a cruel world so with no choice and nowhere to
go lives in the woods with himself and imagination. He learns his freedom from being by himself in a big
world but also learns loneliness as he has only got himself and wishes he has people to be around when
watching other boys his age plays together. Throw out the film He sees people in reflective jackets with
torchers in the distance a missing poster of himself and sees his dad and has unclear flashbacks fade in
throw the shot. We see him sleep rough next to a road and sees the car stop and a light shine in his
direction from his lack of trust of people he gained from his bad up bringing he stays hidden and the
man goes away after a while from a high-tension scene. We find out he runs away from home from
abusive parents and chooses to live homeless in the countryside and learns how to live a rough lifestyle
but doesn’t know any better. There is a search party out for him since his disappearance but his loss of
trust from being around people makes him choose to go on the run and live his own life by himself. The
end scene is him running away from a search party and gets caught. And then I leave it on a cliff hanger
when he gets caught.
I choose to do this short film to increase my skills on my creativity of making a film as that is what I am
mostly passionate about over a documentary or stop motion, and it’s something I want to take in later
career, doing it with no dialogue will also enhances my skills by learning the elements of sound and
visuals within my productions. As having no dialogue to tell a story I will have to combined these key
elements to tell a visual story instead of explaining the story with dialogue from characters. Also show
character development without dialogue would also be a good skill to learn, but by showing the
characters development by his emotions on what he sees without having to explain how he feels but
only by showing how he feels will be a good way skill to learn on how I want my character to feel. Also,
this production has taught me a lot so far such as camera skills, lighting, editing and a narrative
structure. Which is skill I wanted to learn to help with my creative thinking on crafting a film using
visuals and sounds. Also choosing this target audience is to help me learn on what I need to research on
a TA that isn’t close to my own age, and learn on how to make a production for a different TA age range.
These skills have helped me to understand on how to create a production for a different TA. I mainly did
this production to see if I can work independent and plan my own production, which is something I’m
newly experiencing as I usually work as a duo, but, I would like to work alone to see if I can work and
plan by myself without assistant. I would like to select this film into the Henley film festival to put myself
in compotation with other students who are as passionate as I am with film. So, I believe choosing a
short film will give me the best Outcome compared to other productions as it is something I have
crafted skills with mostly so can produce the best outcome.
Deadline
My final dead line for everything to be finished for both production including this production will be the
9th of December. But I will push myself on making my short film completed all the way throw to the 17th
of November so I have time to change anything on the production or have more time into my music
video or my ending evaluation. As with previous productions, I have learnt having more time before the
final deadline is important for improvement.
Target Audience is
My target audience is 40-60-year olds who I have never made a film before but will be a good challenge
for myself as it would be something interesting to do as I am making a film for my parents as they are
both aged 50 years old so I will be very passionate into making a film that is suited for them. I don’t have
a pacific other than the age. It is mainly built on 40-60-year olds who have children so they can have
more empathy and emotion for my character as he is a child and most 40-60-year olds with children
would feel as if they would need for the child to have protection.
What I found out what they like to see are drama productions if we are talking about what most 40-60-
year olds would like to see, as they don’t like horrors, action or anything with an unrealistic and
unrelatable story. They would like to see a real original story and if it isn’t a real story they would like to
see something realistic at best so this doesn’t include fictional stories not fantasy story’s with over the
top and unassay action or gore. They also like nostalgia films from their youth.
From what I am going off from is having a more realistic atmosphere to my production and grainier and
more realistic. I also want to put an old filter in my production to make it lot more vintage and have only
hand held camera as I would like to show the indie cheap production style as indie films had a spark in
40-60 year old youth (example reservoir dogs) so I will be using a grain filter and make it look like a lot
more icy cold realistic atmosphere of England’s winter conditions so my TA will know how cold and
awful the experience will be for a little boy sleeping rough In cold winter conditions.
From my research on my TA I will be showing my short film production on YouTube as it’s the only video
social media platform they use the most to consume video content, and it is also the platform I am very
familiar with so will be easy to upload my productions too. Also, I think it will be good idea to get used to
the Facebook platform and promote my production on there and also Air both my production on there
2
as my TA also mostly use Facebook to connect their social life to I will not be using TIK TOK or Instagram
like last time as my TA do not use these platforms as much so will be pointless to upload or market my
production on these platforms.
