TRANSITION METALS

1) Shade in the transition metals on the Periodic Table shown.

2) Place each of the following properties into the correct area in the diagram below. Some properties should be
placed the section covering both the properties of Group 1 metals and the transition metals.

• relatively low melting points • good thermal and electrical conductors


• high melting points • strong and hard
• not very reactive • soft and can be cut with a knife
• very reactive • high density
• useful as catalysts • low density and some float on water
• compounds are coloured • react with water forming an alkaline solution and H2 gas
• compounds are white • form 1+ ions
• form ionic compounds on reaction with non-metals • form different ions
