Lesson Plan: First Grade, What Is A Noun?
Concept to teach:
General Goal:
● To allow students to understand what a noun is and how it differs from other
parts of speech
Objectives:
● Students will be able to use nouns in sentences while speaking and writing.
Required Material:
● Pencil
● Paper
● Sticky note
Anticipatory Set: I will begin my lesson by using many different nouns repeatedly to get
them into my students head, then I will explain to them that a noun is a person, a place,
or a thing, and encourage them to think of something that matches the description of a

separate the whiteboard into three different spaces, person, place, and thing. Once this
is done, I will have each student come up to the board and place their sticky note where
they think it fits best. Once all sticky notes are on the board we will discuss the results.
● Students will then complete the brain break noun activity, which is a game that

Students will work individually to read the questions, after reading the questions
students will be instructed to underline all of the nouns used in each sentence. Once the
student has completed this assignment they will turn it in and wait for grading. Each
student's scores will tell me which students may need a bit more time to grasp the
lesson.

how fast the reader is speaking in order to make comprehension easier for the students.
Assessment: Students will be instructed to follow the link on the canvas page that takes
them to a mini quiz about nouns. Students will go through the few multiple choice
questions and answer, then they will answer the last question which is asking if they
have any extra questions about nouns. Depending on how each student does on this
use them in a sentence. Before we leave the classroom, each student will receive a
sticky note and will write their name on the sticky note. Then the students will go around
the classroom and write down three different nouns that they see. Once they are done
they will turn the sticky note into me so I can see which students understand and which
