1. From where did you learn about what globalization is?
I learned about globalization during my days in
junior high school.

Email #1:
Miguel: Will arrive at hotel 7 pm. See you then. Donna
I would respond to this e-mail message like “Good Day Sir! Can I get into detail on
what the meeting is all about? Just to clarify this to avoid miscommunication.”. Miguel
is using a non-formal approach which can possibly lead to miscommunication
because of how the e-mail is structured. The sender’s positive intention might be there
but the way the e-mail is constructed, it may cause conflict of interest without the
details of the aforementioned meeting. My response to this e-mail can still be what I
have mentioned in the beginning. I would assume that the sender had a positive intent
but I cannot give full confidence because the details of the meeting is not there. I
would rewrite this e-mail to have a positive impact in something like “Good
Morning/Evening Donna! I will be arriving at the hotel at 7 o’clock in the evening. I will
see you then!”. I would use this framing in a more formal approach in order for no
miscommunication can be held in one e-mail.

Email # 2:
My dearest Donna: How is your family? I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I am
very excited about our upcoming work together because I always learn so much
when we work together. I will arrive at the hotel about 7 pm and hope we can have
dinner together and catch up on each other’s lives before we begin our project. I
spent the weekend hiking with my partner and we saw some beautiful scenery. I have
photos that I look forward to sharing with you. I will call you when I get to the hotel.
Warmest regards, Miguel.
My response to this e-mail would go along the lines of “Good Day Miguel. My family is
doing fine! I hope you and your partner had a nice weekend together. I am also
excited for our work together! I will be seeing you there at the hotel at 7 o’clock in the
evening. Your new friend, Donna.” The approach of the sender is very well put. It is
well constructed and pleasant to read. The positive intention of the sender is to have
dinner and have a chat before starting on their project together. They will catch up as
acquaintances and get to know each other better so that they can work together
smoothly. My response on his e-mail remained unchanged. I would respond to the e-
mail as positive since the e-mail itself has positive intent. I don’t have anything to
rewrite because the e-mail is positive already. I will use the framing for formal
meetings and gatherings because it is good for invitations.

I have realized that us, as a person or a community or as a species, rely on our phones and
other technologies in communicating rather than face-to-face conversations. I have to admit that
I relied on my computer in communicating with people all around the world, to the point that I
have almost forgot to speak to other people that is right in front of me. I am aware that in this day
and age, we converse with people on the internet because of the pandemic and we must follow
that in order to be safe for ourselves and importantly to our families and friends. But as social
beings, we find it difficult to stay away from conversations, hence why we text and use video
calls to cope from the COVID-19 Pandemic. The TED Talk that you have linked was in 2012,
the year where technology was in early stages and it has built rooms for trial and error. But
today, in 2021, Technology had evolved from then, more that ever and people are getting more
into online communications every day. I am not saying that online communication is what we
must rely in conversations, I’m saying that because of the pandemic, it is our option to keep our
loved ones safe during these trying times. Some of us don’t have the luxury of heading back to
our families and had to find solutions in reaching them.
As an introvert, I do miss having conversations with my friends, I even miss the awkward
silences, the laughs from it, and even the boring topics we had most of the time. I miss those
small moments that I have got the chance to be a part of and cherish till the end. The people
laughing to their jokes, the random moments that never made any sense to some people.
Technology can’t replicate that human feeling of communication. Technology may look like
they listen to us, but we have more that. We are social beings; nothing can change that.
