1. Figure PI. 1 shows the speed-torque curves of the motor and load in thefour-

quadrants. Comment on the stability of the equilibrium points A, B, C, and D.

Figure PI. 1

2. A motor operating with a suitable control system develops a torque given by

the relation T aZm b . The motor drives a load for which the torque is given

by the expression TL cZm2 , where a, b, and c are positive real constants, (a)

Comment on the stability of the equilibrium points A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and

H.

4. Examine the stability of points A,B,C and D given in figures.

5. The shown figure shows plots of speed VS motor and load torques. Comment

on the stability of the operating points A, B, C and D.

6. Speed-torque curves of the motor under different operation are shown in

figure. Draw load curves, which will give stable operation with the portions

of characteristics marked AB, BC, DE and EF.

7. A motor operating with a suitable control system develops a torque given by

the relation T aZm b . The motor drives a load whose torque is given by the

expression TL cZm2 d , where a, b, c, and d are positive real constants, (a)

Find the equilibrium speeds in terms of the constants a, b, c, and d. What

relation must exist between the constants for the drive to have two positive

real speeds? (b) Will the drive be stable at the equilibrium points obtained in

(a)?

8. Motor and load torques are given by the following equations: T= 10 N-m and

TL = 0.1 Ȧm N-m. Calculate the time taken for the speed to change from 0 to

the equilibrium speed. J=0.1 kg-m2.

9. Obtain the equilibrium points and determine their steady-state stability when

the motor and load torques are

T 1 2Z 3 Z
e and T l

10. A motor is used to drive a hoist. Motor c/cs are given by:-

Quadrants I, II Te =200-0.2N, N.m.

Quadrants III, IV Te =-200-0.2N, N.m

Where N is the speed in r.p.m., When hoist, is loaded, the net load torque is

TL=100 N.m . And when it is unloaded, the net load torque is TL= -80N.m.

obtain the equilibrium speeds for operation in all the four quadrants.

11. Calculate the starting time of a drive with the following parameters:-

J=10 kg.m2 , T e 15  0.5Z and T L

T L
5 0.06 N Where N is the speed in r.p.m. initially the drive is working at

steady-state. Now the drive is braked by electrical braking. The braking

torque of the motor is T e 10 0.04N . Calculate the time taken by the drive

to stop.

13. A large reel of paper installed at the end of a paper machine has a diameter of

1.8 m, a length of 5.6 m and a moment of inertia of 4500 Kg.m2. It is driven

by a directly coupled variable-speed DC motor turning at 120 r.p.m. The

paper is kept under a constant tension of 6000 N.

a. Calculate the power of the motor when the reel turns at a constant

speed of 120 r.p.m.

b. If the speed has to be raised from 120 r.p.m to 160 r.p.m in 5

seconds, calculate the torque that the motor must developed during

this interval.
