General Rules

● All exhibitors ages 17 & under must wear and ASTM/SEI approved safety helmet during
bareback classes and while riding a horse on Kal Val property during speed events
● A judge may excuse any unsafe vehicle or equipment or any unruly horse from competition.
● Age for the season is as of January 1 of the current calendar year
● Liability waiver must be signed to show, if the exhibitor is under the age of 18, a parent or
guardian must sign. [WARNING: Under the Michigan equine activity liability act, an equine professional
is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in an equine activity resulting from an inherent risk
of the equine activity.]
● Good sportsmanship is to be displayed at all times by all exhibitors, their families and spectators.
Good sportsmanship is defined as respectful treatment of judges, show management, other
competitors, and all horses and other animals involved. Respect for the tradition of the sport and
spirit of showing horses is paramount.
● Payment is due at time of entry sign up.
● Adding classes? Please sign up for additional classes at least 3 classes ahead of time. Once class
has started adds are closed.
● There will be a $35.00 charge for any returned checks.
● Open checks are allowed, but must be closed out at the end of the show day.
● No Refunds
● A current year Coggins test will be required for all horses on the grounds.
● All dogs must be on a leash
● Workers, judges, scribes and/or current show help is only allowed in the entry booth during the
show.
● Abuse of any horse or equine on the grounds by a handler will be subject to disciplinary action
including barring from Kal-Val Saddle Club property up to revocation of membership. Abuse is
considered to be cruel or inhumane treatment of a horse or other equine.
● The judge's decision is final.
● Shirts and long pants are required attire on the property at all times. Proper footwear is required
while riding or handling horses on the property.
● Horses are required to be tied to a trailer or held by a person, horses may not be tied to any
railings or posts on the property or left to openly graze.
● Exhibitors must be at least 18 years of age to handle a stallion on the property.
● Horses cannot cross enter in any two like events: W/T rider may not ride the same horse in
W/T/C at the same show.
● Please respect the "No Horses" signs on the club grounds; these areas are there to protect people
and the grounds. Also, there is no parking in these areas.
● Only show personnel or club members working in the arena are allowed in the ring during the
show.
● For pleasure, exhibitors must display a visible number on their back or numbers on the show pad
in all classes. Exhibitors may use their own or use show supplied numbers- numbers only, without
letters. Any exhibitor failing to display a number or displaying the wrong number will be
penalized at the judge’s discretion.
● 30 second time limit to enter the arena once your class or your name is called. Upon 30 seconds
expiring you forfeit your ride. (Speed and Pleasure)
● Mounted riders should stay clear of the enter and exit gates.
● In speed events, if a tie occurs, you may re-ride or flip a coin.
● A re-ride counts as your final ride.
● The use of spurs, bats or over-and-under bats is optional. Excessive or abusive use of these items
may be given a warning.
● In speed events, horses must start and stop inside the arena. Horses may not run in and out of the
arena as an alley. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. A handler may walk the horse
into and out of the arena without penalty.
