 Towards the middle of my first internship in the ECE room, I began researching
discrete trails. I learned that they are used to help students break down skills and repeat
them until they are mastered. I created the data collection sheet, pictured above, to
document progress made by students. This sheet was created for a specific student that
is working on using a communication binder. This particular student is nonverbal, so the
point of the binder is to help them communicate with everyone. So far, they have
struggled with it. I have been recording the data and based on that, it does not seem
like they are picking up the concept of it yet. The first day I started to record data was
the only day they used it correctly without having to be hand over hand, or full physical.
When the student gets a set schedule, I think it will be easier for them to pick it up
because there will be less change. The hope would be that throughout the school year
the student slowly picks up what to do. I believe we have made it as simple as possible,
it just needs to become more of a habit.
