Micro Switch, Brake Pedal, Replacement
You must read and understand the precautions and guide-
lines in Service Information, group 3, “General Safety
Practices, Electrical and Electronics” before performing
this procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified
in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before
you perform it.

DANGER
Do not attempt to repair or service this vehicle without hav-
ing sufficient training, the correct service literature and the
proper tools. Failure to follow this could make the vehicle
unsafe and lead to serious personal injury or death.

CAUTION
Possible damage to electronic components. Turn the ve-
hicle ignition switch OFF before disconnecting or connect-
ing any electronic components. Failure to de-energize
circuits may result in permanent damage to electronic
components.

Secure the vehicle for service by parking it on a flat level sur-
face, applying the parking brake, chocking the rear wheel,
and placing the transmission in neutral.

Disconnect all cables from the negative (ground) battery ter-
minals to prevent personal injury from electrical shock and
prevent damage to electrical components.

Remove the under dash panels located in proximity of the ac-
celerator pedal.

Disconnect the brake pedal micro switch, wiring connectors.

Remove the brake pedal micro switch fasteners and switch.
Note: Discard the existing brake pedal micro switch.

Note: Store the fasteners for reuse.

Install the replacement brake pedal micro switch and stored
fasteners.
Note: The replacement brake pedal micro witch is mounted
on the bracket using the hole group closet to the driver seat.

Using hand tools, hand tighten the fasteners securing the
brake pedal micro switch.

Loosen the brake micro switch adjustment screw on the
brake pedal micro switch anchorage bracket.

Using figures 1 and 2, determine which micro switch adjust-
ment tool to use in step 10.
Note: Use micro switch adjustment tool (2) part number
88800461 for the old style micro switch (1).

Note: Use micro switch adjustment tool (4) part number


88800538 for the new style micro switch (3). The new micro
switch can be identified by the exposed metal at the end of
the switch as shown in figure 1.

Install the appropriate brake pedal micro switch adjustment
tool (1) or (2) into the lower hole group on the brake pedal mi-
cro switch anchorage bracket.

With pedal in static position, rotate the brake pedal micro
switch anchorage bracket assembly up/down until the adjust-
ment tool touches brake pedal arm.
Note: To adjust the micro switch, the upper adjusting screw
adjustment must be complete. For more information refer to,
“Brake Pedal Adjustment” in Function Group 5.

Note: Air must be supplied to the brake valve in order to ad-


just the micro switch.

Tighten brake pedal micro switch adjustment screw to 10 ±
1.5 Nm (88.5 ± 13 in-lb.)

Connect the brake pedal micro switch wiring connectors.

Install the previously removed under dash panels and
secure.

Install all the previously removed cables to the negative
(ground) battery terminals.

Remove the wheel chocks.

Check for proper operation of the brake pedal switch.
