THEME LIFE SCIENCE TOPI 3.0 MICROORGANISM

C

CONTENT 3.1 Microorganisms are living things

STANDARD

LEARNING 3.1.4 Carry out experiments to determine the factors that affect the growth
STANDARD of microorganisms i.e. water, air, temperature, nutrient and acidity

LEARNING By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

OBJECTIVE Determine the factors that affect the growth of microorganisms

SUCCESS By the end of the lesson, I can

CRITERIA 1. predict the factors that affect the growth of microorganisms.
2. test the factors that affect the growth of microorganisms.
3. State the factors that affect the growth of microorganisms.

PRIOR 1. Pupils can identify the types of microorganisms.

KNOWLEDGE 2. Pupils know that microorganism are living things
3. Pupils knows the life processes of microorganisms
4. Pupils knows the harmful effects of microorganisms

Apparatus and materials: Papaya, beakers, vinegar, lid, vacuum bag

Procedure:
1. A papaya is cut into five portions.
2. Four portions of the papaya are put into beakers labeling V, W, X and Y.
3. Vinegar solution is poured into beaker W and the covered with a lid.
4. Another portion of the papaya is put into a plastic bag and vacuumed. The plastic is labeled as Z.
5. The papayas labeled V, W, X, Y and Z are placed in the following places.

Papaya Storage place

V In a refrigerator
W, X, Y On the table
Z Inside a cabinet with room temperature 27 °C

6. The papayas are observed after a week.
